Gerphil Flores signs contract with David Foster; slated to hold concerts with Jack Jones and the Hitman

Gerphil Flores (in photo) and Jose Mari Chan will perform at the Manila concert of Jack Jones on December 29-30, 2015.

Gerphil Flores has already signed a contract with David Foster.

The Asia’s Got Talent (AGT) second-runner up revealed that her series of collaborations with the award-winning Canadian producer known as the Hitman will start in March 2016.

“I will be part of David Foster and Friends Asia 2016 Tour,” Gerphil told PEP and other entertainment media during a recent press conference for her concert with Jack Jones.

The American jazz and pop singer Jack Jones is best known for songs such as “The Lorelei,” “Wives and Lovers,” "Call Me Irresponsible," and the theme song of the ‘70s American TV show, The Love Boat.

Gerphil is thrilled to be in the Manila concert of Jack Jones together with legendary OPM singer Jose Mari Chan.

It will be recalled that in the grand finals of Asia’s Got Talent, Gerphil performed “The Impossible Dream,” which is a Jack Jones original.

“I am deeply honored and thankful for the opportunity. I can’t wait to meet him in person,” said the Filipina singer.

The Kaagapay ng Tagapagligtas, Inc. is the beneficiary of the Jack Jones concerts in the Philippines. The first one will be held at the KIA Theater in Cubao on December 29. The second concert night will be held on December 30 at the Monet ballroom of Novotel at Araneta Center Cubao.

The group is dedicated to helping out the families of the SAF 44 via direct donations, usually in cash.

“Siyempre, nakakagulat lang yung nangyari,” said Gerphil about the Special Action Force (SAF) policemen who died in the town of Mamasapano in Maguindanao.

“Ang nakikita lang natin dito is yung naiwanan na family members especially yung mga kids…yung mga anak. For me, ang lagi ko talagang pina-prioritize since dati pa is education.”

She added: “I’ve always said that I like singing for a cause, not just for entertainment.”

David Foster’s Golden Girl said she sang for other causes before, like fundraisers for the aged and kids with cancer. “It’s a humbling experience when you get to sing in front of these little angels.”

Last December 11, she had her first solo show at Solaire titled Gerphil Flores: A Golden Treasure.

Gerphil was also named Best Female Classical Performer at the 27th Aliw Awards held a day prior to her first major concert.

The 24-year-old classical singer will be having another concert on February 11-12, 2016 with the Manila Symphony Orchestra.

She confirmed that her solo album will come out next year. “Maybe after nung tour, if given a chance, pwede akong bumalik sa Broadway.”

When asked about going back to musical theater where she started, she pointed out, “Sa ngayon, ang pinagkakaabalahan ko ay yung concerts.”

As for accepting acting gigs, she said, “Sabi nila, basta meron kang theater background, you can go to TV.”

Gerphil is interested but she clarified that acting is not her priority. She wants to concentrate on being a classical singer like her favorite kundiman artists Sylvia La Torre, Nicanor Abelardo, and Francisco Santiago. “For me, the most challenging kundiman song would be ‘Mutya ng Pasig.’”

ManCo Productions, Inc. and Royale Chimes Concerts and Events, Inc. are the ones behind Jack Jones Sings Songs from the Heart.

Aside from Gerphil, this concert will also feature Jose Mari Chan who pointed out that, “This endeavor is just perfect since we are in the season of giving and sharing.”

Jack Jones is expected not only to perform his signature songs but also sing tracks from his new album titled Seriously Frank. The album celebrates what would’ve been the 100th birthday of music icon Frank Sinatra.
