“Ito lang yung show na nandito kami ng Southborder,” crooner Top Suzara jokingly answered when asked to differentiate their Valentine's show from other concerts this love season.

Concergoers have the chance to witness Top and Jay Durias bring romance through their Valentine Playlist concert on February 12, at the Kia Theatre, Araneta Center, Quezon City.

Avid fans of Freestyle and Southborder can take a trip down memory lane while listening to the love songs that dominated the '90s local hit charts.

Top is expected to sing his songs “Before I Let You Go,” “This Time,” “Para Sa ‘Yo,” “Once in a Lifetime,” and “Sabihin Mo Na.”

Mwanwhile, Southborder is set to bring kilig vibes to their audience by playing their most-loved hit “Kahit Kailan,” “Love Of My Life,” and “Rainbow.”

When asked to comment about the proliferation of concerts on Valentine's Day, Jay pointed out, “I don’t think of it as a competition.

“I think it’s more of expression na lang.

“We will express ourselves in our own way and we’re gonna give the best effort that we can.”

Top added, “Different options na lang. Basta kami we have this offering, we’ll bring our best selves on stage.”

Apart from their hits, what else can fans expect to hear that night?

Jay answered, “We talked, e. In one of our gigs at 19 East, nung marami ng ideas parang yun na yung go signal na, ‘Okay, go na ‘yan.’”

With the presence of Gloc-9 as special guest, will their fans hear them rap on stage?

Top replied, “Oo, kami naman [Freestyle] and Southborder naman have songs na may nagra-rap, we’ll see how we will collaborate with Gloc and also with Kyla."

Jay said that rapping can be their special feature that night, “Those will be special highlights din, you know trying to merge songs especially male and female, yung pag change pa lang ng key it’s very tricky.

Top admitted, “But a very welcome challenge, nonetheless.

“Exciting kasi we have to bring our chops, bag of tricks, how are we gonna do this?

“Ano ba pwedeng gawin?

“So that it sounds and feels natural. Kasi we’re playing together so it should something that gels well.”

Looks like Top and Jay will sweep fans off their feet with their classic hits.

Top explained, “Well we are going to bring a lot of our old songs, some of our more recent songs not to say they are new but more recent.

“Plus, a lot of our favorite songs from before and today.

“So we’re gonna put them all together and hopefully we can come up with one picture that encompasses a whole scope of stories that hopefully everybody will be able take away from the evening.”

What songs would they consider to be part of their life’s playlist?

For Valentine's Day, Jay said that it has always been an Earl Klugh song. He said, “Mine would be, well it’s not so know but the artist is known. He's a jazz artist he is called Earl Klugh. His song is called, 'The Summer Song.' Check it out, nice instrumentals."

Top cited his all-time favorite wedding song, “Ako ang dami, e.

“Parang nagka-crash yung hard drive ko pero on top of my head maybe yung relatively new, siguro mga 2000s, Kenny Lattimore’s ‘For You.’

“Old siguro, ‘The Way You Look Tonight,’ in a very sincere manner of singing, alam mo maraming 'baduy' songs pero sa akin walang baduy, e."

Jay admits that singing their favorite love songs allow them to be cheesy all the way, “But that would be an opportunity to be cheesy and mushy in a way with ourselves.”

For their concert titled Valentine Playlist, Top assures that they will sing songs everyone will enjoy listening and singing to, “We will try to offer some ‘cheesy,’ ‘mushy,’ and to others ‘baduy’ pero tignan natin pag tinugtog natin we’ll try to justify that they are not naman baduy, they are really good songs.”

How about their life’s ultimate hugot song?

“Maybe ‘The Search is over,’ I’ve been trying to come up with my own version of that song because it’s not too high but I love the lyrics and definitely one of my favorite love songs that’s a cheesy, mushy, pop-rock song,” explained Jay.

Top listed a lot of hugot songs, “Ako, hugot? 'All My Life,' 'America,' 'Separate Lives,' 'I’ll Still Be Loving You,’ mga classic rock."

And what is that one song that changed their lives?

Top revealed the song that allowed him to discover that he can sing and that one song that he felt so nervous singing, “Ako 'That’s What Friends Are For,' because that was the first time I pick up a mic, and sang, and people started coming up to us.

“Dun din ako unang nakaramdam ng kaba at stage fright.”

While Jay’s pick is very sentimental, it’s about a song that made him realize the importance of saying I love you. He relates, “Mine is not famous but the singer is famous, it’s Stevie Wonder’s ‘These Three Words.’

“I knew that song from a friend, when he let me hear that song, it brought me to tears, kasi it speaks about reality in love, the real world.

“You know, love for your parents, love in general.

“The lyrics says, ‘Just in a blink of an eye, they’ll be gone,’ just a simple I love you parang, ‘Wow, aray ko!’”
