Boy George excited to try Filipino food when he visits Manila for June concert

Culture Club Featuring Boy George Live In Manila will take place on June 17-18 at the SMART Araneta Coliseum.

As far as music is concerned, nakailang No. 1 hit singles ang Culture Club tulad ng Karma Chameleon, Miss Me Blind, It’s A Miracle, Love Is Love, Mistake Number Three, Church of A Poison Mind, Do You Really Want To Hurt Me and The War Song.

Na-disband ang Culture Club in 1986 at nagkaroon ng solo career si Boy George by deejaying in different clubs in London. Recently, isa siya sa mga naging mentors ng The Voice U.K.

Now after more than three decades, muling magsasama ang Culture Club for a reunion concert tour na magdadala sa kanila sa higit na 40 cities worldwide, kasama na rito ang Manila on June 17 and 18 sa SMART Araneta Coliseum dubbed as Culture Club Featuring Boy George Live In Manila!

First time silang magpe-perform sa Pilipinas at hindi aware si Boy George na marami pala silang naging fans sa ating bansa noong kasikatan ng Culture Club.

“I’m happy that we will be playing in the Philippines,” panimula pa ng 54-year-old British singer.

“To do shows in places where we’ve never been because now we’re a band at our peak and I think you’ll get a surprisingly good show.

“It’s very nice to hear that and makes things even more exciting to hear that you are still popular in other countries and it’s wonderful we are expecting a great audience."

Ayon kay Boy George, gusto rin nila i-try ang Filipino food.

“We are excited most specially with the food. I think for us we always want to make sure that we leave the crowd with a smile on their faces and a smile on their hearts.”

Ngayon daw ang tamang panahon para magsama ulit sila ng Culture Club after more than 30 years.

“We’re a much better band now, we are older, smarter, we are more relaxed, we enjoy it more when we play.

“We really enjoy it. I just really love doing live shows.

“These things happen when they’re meant to happen.

“We’re in a really good place right now and the best time for us to be together is when everybody’s feeling positive and kinda enthusiastic so I think that’s why we’re doing it now.

“I think a band like Culture Club really makes sense onstage where it’s really magical and that’s where the fun happens. That’s where the real chemistry of the band takes place.”

For more than 40 years in the music industry, hindi pa rin daw nawawala ang passion niya for music, kahit na marami nang mga bagong singers at bands ang dumating at nawala.

Ang importante ay nandoon ang mark mo as a musician at ang mga ideas mo ay nakikita at nararamdaman ng marami.

“Nowadays, you need to be more than just a musician.

“It’s a very different landscape now. You just have to deal with all sorts of things, all sorts of ideas.

“It isn’t just about music anymore. It’s about everything that kinda adds up to your legacy and your greatness.”

“I think you just have to be yourself.

“The music industry has so many people who are very similar with other people, like, ‘you sound like this or that.’

“I think to stand the test of time, you have to be an individual, you have to be unique and you have to find your own identity.

“I’ve done fashion, DJ-ing and other things. I guess in a funny sort of way, I’ve become Boy George the brand.

“It’s a very kind of on-point term. I can’t be the person who I was when I was 19.

“At that age, I really didn’t think beyond the week. But I never thought I’d be sitting here 30 years down the line discussing my career.

“It’s very surprising to still be talking about what I did but it’s a wonderful privilege,” tawa pa niya.

Ang world tour ng Culture Club ay magdadala sa kanila sa Australia, Mexico and the United States.
