Charo Santos-Concio lends voice for the commemorative album of Maalaala Mo Kaya's 25th anniversary celebration. The ABS-CBN executive performed a song with granddaughter Julia Concio.

As part of its 25th anniversary, Maalaala Mo Kaya launched its 25th year anniversary album titled MMK Life Songs.

One of its carrier singles is the Tagalog translation of the poem "Desiderata" which was originally written by Max Ehrmann and translated by Enrico Santos.

The track also gathered together OPM icons Lea Salonga, Martin Nievera, Gary Valenciano, Lani Misalucha, Ogie Alcasid, Zsa Zsa Padilla, and Sharon Cuneta.

During the August 2 press conference/listening party held at 9501 Restaurant of ABS-CBN, MMK host Charo Santos-Concio revealed that she personally chose the songs and the artists included in this special album.

According to the singers present during the presscon, Ma'am Charo, or CSC in showbiz circles, sent them personal formal letters expressing that she wants them to be part of the album.

But the biggest surprise of the album is that listeners get to hear CSC's voice as a singer in one of its tracks!

The track was a revival of "Sana" in which she performed with Piolo Pascual and her granddaughter Julia Concio.

CSC said with a laugh, "Alam niyo po, baka hindi na maulit ito.

"So hindi na po ako pinilit ni Jonathan [Manalo], hindi siya nahirapan. Alam mo naman, frustrated singer ako."

Star Music producer Jonathan Manalo revealed that they really convinced CSC to be a part of this album, since MMK has really been associated with her, being its host and creator.

He said, "Actually kinonvince talaga namin si Ma'am Charo kasi very special ang MMK album.

"So saan pa bang album siya pwedeng kumanta? So, sabi namin, 'Ma'am Charo, dito ka na kumanta sa album na ito."

CSC then blurted out with a laugh, "Wala namang pwedeng iba, so pagbigyan niyo na ako ng tatlong linya!"

What was the reason why she chose to be a part of this song?

She answered, "Di ba, these [the lyrics] are the dreams and aspirations of a child?

"And there is a child in each one of us at hindi ito nawawala sa isip at puso natin."

Jonathan also shared what he learned from CSC while recording the song.

He recalled, "Siyempre, kinakabahan ako kasi Ma'am Charo yung nirerecord ko.

"So noong kinakanta na ni Ma'am Charo yung 'Sana,' sabi ko, Maam Charo isa pa po.

"Tapos sabi niya, nanunuod yung mga apo niya, sabi niya, 'Look Julia, Talia, look at lola, she's making mistakes, it's okay to make mistakes."

During the press conference, Jona and Kyla performed a duet of "Because You Loved Me," KZ sang a Kelly Clarkson original "Piece by Piece," while Noel Cabangon and Aiza Seguerra gave a heartfelt rendition of the song "Handog."

Also included in the album is the song "Iingatan Ka," which was performed by real-life mother-and-daughter duo Jenine Desiderio and Janella Salvador. Jonathan and CSC proudly shared that this is the first time a real mother-and-daughter tandem sang this song about mothers.

MMK Life Songs also include tracks from other OPM singers such as Darren Espanto and Jed Madela, Juris, Charice, and features solo performances from Sharon Cuneta, Piolo Pascual, and Gary Valenciano.

Listeners can also hear little anecdotes and reflections of Ma'am Charo per track in this album that costs P350.
