Erik Santos is about to fulfill his dream of directing his own concert.
In his upcoming concert titled Erik Santos Sings The Greatest OPM Classics, Erik will be wearing several hats other than being a singer.
Apart from performing, he will also be the director and the writer of the second Powerhouse concert at The Theatre in Solaire Resort and Casino in Paranaque City on April 7.
“I'm very excited, actually.
“Ako yung nag-isip, ako yung nagsulat ng script,” Erik said with a smile during the press conference of the concert held recently.
The former Star in a Million grand champion recalled, “Isa pong dream ko talaga ay magdirek ng isang show.
We Love OPM: The Celebrity Sing-Offs is the defunct reality music competition that featured local music artists.
Erik also said about his upcoming concert, “Noong in-offer po sa akin ang concert na 'to, naisip ko po na why not ako po mismo ang mag-direct at magsulat ng concert. Subok lang po.
“I'm really excited na gawin ito kasi sarili ko itong show.”
“Although, it's very stressful, medyo nakaka-pressure.”
Despite these challenges, Erik considers this project as an opportunity to explore other skills.
He reasoned out, “Hindi naman natin gagawin hangga't nandoon tayo sa comfort zone natin.
“Papaano tayo maggo-grow. This is part of my growth as a performer and as an artist.”
The 34-year-old music artist likes to think that this is just the beginning for his directing and writing skills.
“This is something na babaunin ko for the rest of my life,” he said when asked about his talent fee for this project.
“Kumbaga, isa po itong special event sa buhay ko kasi this is my first time to direct and write my own show.
FOCUS ON OPM. Unlike other local music artists who often do their own versions of foreign songs, Erik like to focus on original Pinoy music.
Erik also wants to re-introduce OPM to the younger generation.
“We really are trying to campaign na mas mapalakas pa ang OPM music para po maipakita namin kung gaano kaganda at kung gaano kayaman ang musikang Pilipino sa generation ngayon.
“Yung generation kasi ngayon puro K-pop o tunog banyaga.
“So, on this concert, makikita nila kung gaano talaga kaganda at gaano nila dapat i-embrace ang musikang Pilipino.”
Joining Erik in his concert at The Theater are singer-composer Yeng Constantino and Organisasyon ng Pilipinong Mang-aawit president Ogie Alcasid.
