Khalil Ramos is adding a feather in his cap by honing other skills aside from acting.

The ABS-CBN actor tries his hand at directing for the first time. The star in his directorial debut project is GMA-7 actress Gabbi Garcia.

Khalil disclosed this during his press conference for his indie film Riding in Tandem last Saturday, October 14, at the ABS-CBN compound.

"I just shot a music video in Hong Kong. It's my first directorial job.

"But I've been an assistant director before that, I've been a producer, I've been a DOP [director of photography], and a camera operator.

"In the future, I would like to work on films, short films, TV shows."

How did he end up becoming the director of Gabbi's music video?

Khalil explained, "Gabbi is a close friend. Same circle kasi kami [of friends].

"She knows I do production work. She contacted me and asked if I want to work.

"She said, 'I'm launching my music career.'

"Sabi ko, 'Game! Isipan natin ng concept, ng kuwento.'

"Pati yung takbo ng music video, the location, the story, ako rin yung nag-conceptualize."

Gabbi is set to release her self-produced single and music video on October 23.

In her Instagram account, the Kapuso actress posted a photo with Khalil and the other people who worked behind the scenes of her music video.

When asked if he had any formal training prior to directing his first work, Khalil revealed, "I took up two semesters sa Benilde.

"Next year, I plan to study at NYFA [New York Film Academy].

"Next year, I plan to take a three month course in either filmmaking or cinematography.

"Kasi next year rin, magsu-shoot na ko ng movie with Reality."
She wrote in the caption, "Team LIMITLESS for my first self-produced single "All I Need" music video shot in Hong Kong."

Since the two have been spotted spending time with each other, it’s no surprise that there are rumors alleging Kahlil is courting Gabbi.

So is he really dating the Kapuso actress?

"We're close friends lang," said Khalil with a smile.

"We're very good friends. Marami kaming common friends—Julia Barretto, Kathryn [Bernardo]."

CHALLENGING RIDE. Khalil is one of the stars of the action film Riding in Tandem, which also features Jason Abalos, Mara Lopez, Sue Prado, and Joem Bascon.

"Ang pangalan ko dito, Jonard," said Khalil about his character.

"May ate ako, si Sue [Prado].

"Ang ka-tandem ko talaga si Jason Abalos. Siya yung tunay na hitman na nakilala ko sa kulungan.

"Nakulong ako dahil I [sought] revenge for my sister's death.

"Dun nabuo ang tandem namin na maging hired killers kaming dalawa."

Directed by Toto Natividad, this action film is currently being screened at select SM cinemas until October 19.

Khalil described his character, saying, "Ang backstory ni Jonard, tricycle driver ako.

"Sa tandem, ako yung driver kasi mas hasa ako magmaneho kaysa sa amin ni Jason Abalos."

What are his favorite scenes in the movie?

"Paborito ko yung fight scene sa jail kung saan nagkakilala kami ni Jason.

“Kumbaga, sinave ko siya.

"Matinding fight scene siya at sobrang sikip lang ng lugar.

"Sa loob kami ng selda nag-shoot. Tapos yung mga nakapaligid sa amin, yung mga tunay talaga na preso...totoong prisoners.

"Sobrang init at pawis na pawis na kami."

While the movie is not based on a true story, Riding in Tandem mirrors true events happening in the Philippines, according to Khalil.

"Dahil sa nangyari sa pamilya, naghiganti ang mga karakter and naging hired killers sila.

"Kriminal siya na may love story na may family background."

How was it like doing an action film?

"I enjoy doing action. I was really excited.

"It was different, you can see the dedication of people, lalo na yung mga stuntmen.

"Dun ko na-experience na may pagka-delikado.

"May chance ka talagang matamaan ng suntok. Posible kang matamaan ng kotse, magka-battle scars.

"That risk of danger makes it exciting for me."

How did he prepare for his role as a hired killer?

"Sa fight director, I trained with him on how to hold a gun, how to fire a gun, how to throw punches.

"For the role mismo, as a method actor, I get into the mind of the character.
