Yeng Constantino, KZ Tandingan, and Rico Blanco were all flattered to discover that the lineup of singers headlining One Music X festival was a result of a “survey” answered by Kapamilya fans in Dubai.
The OPM music festival will be held at Dubai Media Center Amphitheatre on November 3.
“Taun-taon po akong pumupunta ng Middle East. Ine-expect ko na sawang-sawa na sila sa mukha ko.
“Pero hanggang ngayon gusto pa rin nila ako pumunta dun, so nakakatuwa.
“Yun ang nagi-inspire sa akin everytime na kumakanta ako, kahit maraming beses nila akong makita, gusto ko parang laging first time ulit.
“Kasi yung energy, yung pananabik na binibigay nila sa amin, nakaka-inspire.”
Rico, for his part, said that One Music X is going to be his first major music gig for 2017 after several months of traveling abroad.
He went on to say that it reminded him of how Dubai used to be his haven when he quit from his band Rivermaya in 2007.
“It’s kind of cool. I think five or seven years ago, that was my favorite hangout.
“When I left Rivermaya before, I even spent a month there.
“Yung mga intro ng ‘Yugto’ na medyo Middle-Eastern, diyan ‘yan, e.
“So, for them to come up with a survey… I’m genuinely thrilled. Kinikilig ako.”
The 44-year-old OPM rock singer quipped, “Or, may pinsan ako sa Abu Dhabi, baka siya lang yun [nag-request sa akin].
“Kung ikaw man yun, huwag mo nang sabihin. You’re just gonna ruin it for me.”
RICO IMPRESSED BY KZ. KZ reminisced that when she won ABS-CBN's singing competition X Factor, her first show was in Dubai.
“Third time ko to perform in Dubai. Nung una po, huwag natin pag-usapan kasi nakabistida pa ako nun. At yung lineup ko, parang something wrong.
“Pero seryoso, four years mula noong una akong nag-perform dun, marami na akong natutunan.
“Nahanap ko na talaga kung ano yung music ko, kung sino talaga ako as a performer.
“I’m very excited na makita nila kung ano yung ginagawa ko at kung ano talaga yung set ko."
She added, "Nung first time ko dun, kasama ko si Sir Rico, wala pa yung 'Mahal Ko o Mahal Ako' and 'Two Less Lonely People In The World.'"
Rico interjected that KZ was already an amazing singer back then, "Nag-stand out ka, naalala ko yun. Nung set niya dumating ako nang maaga, napanood ko. Bilib ako sa kanya."
To which, KZ replied, "Sobrang nakakataba po ng puso yun, Sir. Kahit na Rico Blanco na kayo, napapansin niyo kaming nagsisimula pa lang."
SET LIST. Rico, KZ, and Yeng were interviewed during the presscon of One Music X, held at ABS-CBN's ELJ Building last October 10.
Hosted by Robi Domingo and Ai dela Cruz, One Music X will also feature Inigo Pascual, pop-rock band Silent Sanctuary, DJ-producer Moophs, and Xela.
According to Yeng, she prepared an all-original set list including fan favorites like “Hawak Kamay” and “Ikaw.”
“Even yung mga songs na pinasikat ko in 2010, magto-throwback ako ng mga songs.
“Kasi ang sarap ng ganun, maaawit mo yung mga kantang minahal sa ‘yo. At the same time, Pinoy na Pinoy yung tunog.
“Kasi, di ba, Pinoy music festival siya? Alam natin na yun ang inaabangan ng mga Kapamilya natin.”
Rico added that he can’t wait to be reunited with his bandmates and perform their trademark tribal-inspired production numbers.
"Yung ethnic or tribal element, it's something that needs to be shared with every generation. Yung iba medyo nakakalimutan, so I try to bring it back whenever I can."
KZ is also excited to perform her latest hits including "Two Less Lonely People In The World," the theme song of the blockbuster movie Kita Kita, starring Alessandra de Rossi and Empoy.
"Gusto ko rin kumanta ng cover kasi ipapakita rin natin kung paanong ang isang OPM artist kayang bigyan ng ibang flavor yung kanta ng Western artists."
