Elmo Magalona is more than happy to renew his contract with Universal Records especially since he was given the opportunity to be more technically involved in the recording of his next album.
“For this album, I am going to be more hands on technically. It’s going to sound new and exciting,” said the singer-actor after he formally renewed his contract with the said label.
The self-titled debut album that Elmo released as a result of his signing with Universal Records in 2015 eventually delivered a Gold Record Award, partly prompting the label to ink a fresh contract with him.
The ABS-CBN actor says his new album will be totally different from his previous record.
"What I can promise is that it's not gonna be like the first album. The first album had a lot of messages na it's kind of in-your-face.
"The next album, mas heavy on the music."
Will he be collaborating with other singers for his still-untitled album? "I haven't thought about it yet," he admitted. "Nung first album ko, I had features of Janella [Salvador] in the album."
On a personal note, if he could pick a song that he would dedicate to rumored girlfriend Janella, which song would he choose?
Elmo chose the song "Make You Feel My Love."
He explained, "Sabi niya sa akin, song niya sa akin yun. Dinededicate ko rin sa kanya."
REMAKING FRANCIS M. When the son of late Master Rapper Francis Magalona was asked if he already has concrete plans for his upcoming album, he disclosed, “My next step is always to make quality music. As long as I’m comfortable doing the sound and the look that will come out of the recording sessions, I’ll go for that.”
Elmo might re-do some obscure Francis Magalona songs as part of the album.
He revealed, “If may chance ako, I will put in some remakes of my dad’s old catalogue. Pero for sure iba na ang sound nila.”
Interestingly, Elmo is kind of an old soul as far as personal playlist is concerned. He listens to the '80s rock band Nirvana and to the '60s rock & roll band The Beatles.
He even has a favorite Beatles album: Yellow Submarine.
“That album is so colorful and creative, “ he said. “I love The Beatles because of their creativity and passion.”
Curiously, Yellow Submarine the album is among the least notable in The Beatles canon, with only four somewhat unremarkable originals to boot and with half of the album compromising of George Martin-arranged instrumentals. “Yellow Submarine” the song originally comes from the album Revolver.
Elmo feels proud that his dad favorably lifted a melody line from the Paul McCartney-written “Here There and Everywhere” to embellish his classic song “Kaleidoscope World.”
EXPANDING WORLD OF RAP. On Francis M.’s own sphere of influence, Elmo pointed out, “Rap has become one of the biggest genres in the Philippines today partly because of him.
"Before it was seen as baduy but my dad embraced his talent and pushed it for recognition.”
The Kapamilya actor added, “My career is in a way like that: evolving, changing, and moving forward continuously."
