After almost four years, ex-Westlife member Shane Filan has returned to the Philippines.
The 38-year-old singer is currently in Manila as part of his promo tour for his third solo album Love Always.
PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) and other members of the Philippine media interviewed Shane at a press conference held on Thursday, February 8, at the Marco Polo Hotel in Ortigas.
The Irish singer expressed his excitement on reuniting with his Filipino fans. Shane also looks forward to trying out Pinoy cuisine.
He explained, "I want to, obviously, as much food possible. I used to be a lot more... or I would not try local food years ago and be afraid to try them in case, or for whatever reason.
"But I'm definitely more adventurous now when it comes to food. I've been told to try a dessert. Is it halo-halo?"
He added, "I've been told to try that so we're having that today after dinner."
PH COLLAB. Shane also expressed his excitement for doing a collaboration with a Filipino artist for the first time.
Shane recorded a duet version of the song "Need You Now" from his album with Bossa Nova Queen Sitti.
Shane narrated, "It's my first duet in the Philippines, too, which is gonna be pretty cool. We're singing a really, really good song titled 'Need You Now.'"
"I love her version, it's been really really good! I’m going to meet her for the first time today."
He continued, "Hopefully, people will like this version of the song. It's a great song. It's such a good song."
Later that day, Sitti unleashed her inner fangirl upon meeting Shane after the press conference.
The Pinay singer uploaded their photo on Instagram with the caption: "Somebody pinch me!!! ???????????????? @shanefilanofficial and I have a collab, everyone!!
"We recorded a song together!! Can’t wait for you all to hear it!! @mca_music says it’ll drop on @spotify and @applemusic tomorrow!!
"And then we’ll sing the song live at his Robinson’s Place Manila show tomorrow too!! I feel like using exclamation points forever!! Hahaha!!
"Oh, my fangirl heart!! ??????????????????????????????"
LOVE ALWAYS. Shane revealed that his third album's title actually came from his autographs.
The singer usually writes "Love always" every time a fan asks for his autograph.
His album includes his version of "This I Promise You," "Heaven," "Don’t Dream It’s Over," "Need You Now," and "Eternal Flame," among others.
He also included three original tracks titled "Completely," "Eyes Don’t Lie," and "Crazy Over You."
Shane feels much more comfortable performing solo, almost six years after he released his first solo album titled You and Me in 2013.
He told the press, "I really feel more comfortable now, five years on. My first year was a bit weird, it was a bit scary.
"It was very new to me and I didn’t realize what it was gonna be like. But I knew that the one thing that I loved is singing so to get to do that is amazing.
"It’s just about getting better and better, and the support I got from my fans is growing every year.
"And It’s really exciting to be on my third album and to be back here. So yeah, it's been great!”
Shane was asked about the possibility of having a reunion with other Westlife members Nicky Byrne, Kian Egan, Mark Feehily, and Brian McFadden.
Fans of the band were hopeful of their reunion after news of their comeback made headlines last November 2017.
However, Westlife fans would have to wait a little longer for their band's reunion.
Shane explained, "There's no plans at the moment. I think Louis [Walsh] our manager is always very excited of the prospects of that happening someday.
"And I'm sure the Westlife fans are too. I would not rule that out but there's no plans at the moment.
"Maybe someday in the future, I'm it would be fun for everybody including us. I'm sure would have great fun too but not at the moment."
Meanwhile, Shane had a short trip down memory lane when a fan brought his Shane Filan doll at the press conference.
The singer pointed out that having your own doll is now a status symbol among singers.
He recalled, "Having a doll was something we were really excited about when it happened.
"I remember when we were younger, people who were famous would get a doll so once you had a doll, you'll feel like you’ve made it in the music industry.
"My mom actually has one of these at home as well, so she’s very proud that her son became a doll."
