Pinay singer Maria Laroca continues to wow UK audiences on The X Factor UK.
The 17-year-old aspiring performer advances to the next stage of the UK talent competition after successfully passing the "Six Chair Challenge."
According to UK-based entertainment website Radio Times, the "Six Chair Challenge" is one of the "cruelest / most entertaining round" in the show.
Contestants are clustered into four categories—boys, girls, groups, and overs—and each judge is designated to a specific category.
Each act per category will perform on stage, and the designated judge will decide on the spot whether or not their performance is good enough to merit a place in one of the six chairs.
Maria almost lost her seat in judge Simon Cowell's group when she had to go through a sing-off with fellow contestant Georgia Burgess.
Maria and Georgia were vying for the final and sixth chair in Simon's category, the girls act.
The two performers took turns belting out their song of choice, and Maria sang her audition piece "Purple Rain" by Prince one more time.
Judges Robbie Williams, Ayda Field, and Louis Tomlinson were brought to their feet at the end of the sing-off, agreeing that both girls outperformed themselves on stage and that Simon had a tough call to make.
Maria was commended by judge Robbie who told her: “You’ve got a huge personality, a huge voice, you’re incredible, baby!”
Simon then made the surprise decision to give Maria and Georgia both a place in his final six, cutting Jennifer Owens out.
