Charice Pempengco received a Gold Record award for her second album during the July 5 episode of ASAP '09. Her album titled My Inspiration is released by Star Records and features a duet with her Mommy Raquel.
The petite singer performed her latest single, "Always You," to the delight of the audiences and the viewers of the ABS-CBN variety show. Right after her performance, Star Records line producer Rock Santos and album producer Jonathan Manalo joined Charice onstage to present the Gold Record award since her My Inspiration album sold more than 12,500 copies.
"Una po sa lahat, gusto ko po magpasalamat kay God sa mga blessings po," said the 17-year-old singer. ASAP '09 hosts Billy Crawford and Nikki Gil also shared in the joy of Charice as she was awarded the huge plaque.
My Inspiration was released last May 2009 by Star Records with the carrier single "Always You." Charice's first Gold Record award was for her self-titled album Charice, also released by Star Records in May 2008.
The Filipina singer was supposed to be a part of Michael Jackson's This Is It concert series in London had he not died last June 25, 2009.
Billy Crawford asked Charice how she felt when she learned about the death of the King of Pop. She answered, "Kasi po, nabalitaan ko po ‘yun sa TV, sa Umagang Kay Ganda po, as in nakatulala po ako. Kasi, I was supposed to sing 'Billy Jean', parang showdown po between me and Michael Jackson."
The male ASAP '09 host quipped, "Di bale, may Billy Joe pa naman, e." Billy then moonwalked onstage in imitation of MJ's famous dance move.
Charice recently conducted her first major solo concert in the Philippines titled Charice: The Journey Begins. It was held last June 27, 2008 at the SMX Convention Center, SM Mall of Asia, Pasay City. Asia's Songbird Regine Velasquez was supposed to be her guest that night but Ms. Kuh Ledesma joined her instead. It turned out that Regine was stricken with the influenza A (H1N1) virus at that time.
