Christian Bautista did not pass up the chance to sing Jose Mari Chan's songs

Christian Bautista will be in SM Fairview on October 11 and at SM Baguio on November 20 to promote his new album Romance Revisited: The Love Songs of Jose Mari Chan.

The very first album of Christian Bautista under Universal Records is now out and he believes that it will soon reach the Gold record status. The 19-track album is titled Romance Revisited: The Love Songs of Jose Mari Chan. Its carrier single is "Tell Me Your Name" with a music video featuring Paula Taylor.

Other songs are "I Remember The Girl," "Afraid For Love To Fade," "I Have Fallen In Love (with the same woman three times)," "Beautiful Girl," "Can't We Start Over Again," "Be Gentle," "Stay My Love," "After Glow," "A Love To Last A Lifetime," "Constant Change," "Deep in My Heart," "Refrain," "Can We Just Stop And Talk A While, and "So I'll Go."

He also has duets with Sarah Geronimo for "Please Be Careful With My Heart," Regine Velasquez for "My Girl My Woman My Friend," Lani Misalucha for "Here and Now" and "A Heart's Journey" with Jose Mari Chan.

The album was produced by Ito Rapadas for Universal Records and it comes with a limited edition Christian Bautista photo calendar.

Christian just signed up with UR after undergoing almost two years of "ligawan."

He recalls: "When my contract expired in Warner Music, kami nina kuya Carlo [Orosa], Tito Audie [Gemora], we were looking for something different. Something that would jumpstart my career again. So, we sort of looked for ideas in other recording companies and maybe, they have had ideas for me for my next album.

"And when UR presented to us the idea of me doing the love songs of Jose Mari Chan, ako talaga, ang naisip ko, I cannot let it pass. I have to do this project because this is a once-in-a-lifetime project and I have always dreamt of singing Jose Mari Chan's songs.

"Kahit noong nasa Indonesia pa ako, when the DJ there was interviewing me and they will say, oh, you're a Filipino?! Do you know that Jose Mari Chan is a Filipino also. And they will ask me to sing his song and I will sing 'Beautiful Girl.'

"So, parang fate has connected us and I'm very happy with this decision and I will be forever grateful to where Warner has brought me as well and I'm still on good terms with them. But I'm very, very happy with my new Universal family. Itong album na nga lang na ito, blood, sweat and tears ang pinagdaanan but it's really worth it."

Incidentally, Jose Mari (who is a double diamond artist) and platinum singer Christian are well-known in Indonesia.

The young crooner admits that he feels pressure in reviving songs that have earned double diamond record awards for the original artist.

"Meron talagang pressure na na-feel ako noong ma-realize ko ang intensity at magnitude of this album na talagang...I believe, kung iko-compute natin, wala pang piracy noon, tapos double diamond, so, that sold about...let's say, more than a million people have this album.

"Ang double diamond is 20x platinum without piracy, so, talagang I really felt the pressure. Kaya before ako maging satisfied sa isang recording, pinapakinggan ko over and over again at dapat sa akin, perfect na. So, hopefully, mapi-feel ng listeners ang effort at love na nilagay namin sa bawat recording ng kanta.

Among the songs in his album, Christian's personal favorite is "Beautiful Girl." At this point in his life, he can actually relate with the lyrics of the song that go: "Beautiful Girl, wherever you are. I knew when I saw you, you had opened the door. I knew that I'd love again after a long, long while I'd love again..."

Fans can catch Christian live in SM Fairview (October 11) and SM Baguio (November 20) for the promotion of his album.
