Bring back themagic of rock n' roll as British band Raygun conquers Manila from October 17-20 for the last leg oftheir Asian promo tour.
The band—composedof Ray Gun on vocals, The Adj on guitars, Ben Lyonsmith on bass and Sam Emberyon drums—just released their self-titled debut album, which features thecarrier single "Just Because."
Raygun, whorecently supported Pink's "Funhouse" concert tour, got their name from theDavid Bowie song "Moonage Daydream" who they also consider as their musicalinfluence, aside from Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars. Their musicalblueprint mixes pop, art and melodies that move your heart, head, and heels.
The band's story, quite fittingly, is bright and exuberant.Their journey began when Ray Gun met The Adj in 2004 in a dirty dive, when Rayblew everyone away singing The Beatles'"Oh Darling." They began writing songs and gigging together in Brighton where Ray, ever the showman, liked to dress up,paint his face, and bounce around the walls.
In these days of ubiquitous Indiebands, skinny jeans and skinny ties, the world wasn'tready—not for the clamour of their songs, nor for a group who treasuredexcitement and entertainment over soul-sapping durge. But by 2009 things have changed, and the world is more than ready for Raygun. With Ben and Sam recentlyrecruited to this noble cause, their backbone is stronger than ever, and theirpulse is ready to race.
Raygun wants to seta new blueprint for pop-rock. Byobsessing over the stars of the past who embraced art as well as pop, they remember the times when musicians didn'tonly pretend to be stars, but actually became stars.
Catch Raygun liveon their special showcase on Sunday, October 18, 5 p.m. at SM North EDSA The Block, with special guest Callalily. They arealso scheduled to guest on GMA-7's Sunday variety show S.O.P. as well as make appearances onmusic channel MYX.
Raygun is now out in CDs under Sony Music.
