Solenn Heussaff collaborates with Rico Blanco for her original composition; will have a duet with brother Erwan for her concert

Solenn Heussaff’s career in the music scene is on the rise as she marks two milestones: the release of her debut album, and mounting a solo concert. Solenn on Stage will take place at the Music Museum on August 19 and 26.

She has penetrated the world of cosmetology, fashion designing, painting, modeling, acting, and now— singing. Who’s she? She’s none other than Solenn Heussaff.

This "multi-slashie," as they call her, is now trying her luck in the music industry as she launches her self-titled album, Solenn.

The album is composed of 10 tracks, eight of which are cover songs, and two being original compositions. (Philippine Entertainment Portal) and other members of the media were able to interview Solenn last August 10 at Redbox in Eastwood Libis, Quezon City.

She told us that the song "Chemistry," which is included in her album, is an original song that she composed with OPM singer Rico Blanco.

Singer/songwriter Rico Blanco was formerly the lead vocalist for the OPM band Rivermaya. He is now a solo artist.

"Actually I wrote the lyrics, we met off," she said.

"Tapos, parang genius siya, like, we just sat in his studio tapos he said, ’Okay, maybe you could change this one, change this paragraph.’

"So, we worked on the lyrics together. Tapos we started playing with the beat."

Solenn said she met Rico when she was thirteen years old. That’s why she got excited when MCA Music Inc., was able to convince him to work with her.

"Actually I’ve known him since I was 13, we’ve been friends.

"I know he doesn’t write for other people anymore, but he got in touch with MCA, then they suggested it.

"Of course, I bow down to him, so I’m very, very excited."

She even revealed a little secret about Rico Blanco.

"What people don’t know about Rico is he super loves to dance!" she said laughing.

"He doesn’t look like it but, oh, my god, you should see it for yourself."

FIRST SOLO CONCERT. Next week, Solenn will mount her first solo concert. Though a bit nervous about it, she’s enthusiastic about singing in front of an audience for the first time.

"This is my first so I don’t know how to react. This is first time for me," Solenn said.

What should people expect from her concert?

"Baka may stand-up comedy skills, or rather I’ll speak Tagalog the whole time," she laughed.

She also revealed that she will be having several guests, like Ogie Alcasid, Geoff Taylor, and her brother Erwan Heussaff.

Solenn said it was hard for her to convince her brother to have a duet with her for the concert.

"I said, ’Are you going to my concert’? He said, ’No.’ ’But you’re my my brother, you have to support me, you’ll do a song with me’. Yun na!"

What performance will they do?

"Actually, dapat one duet tapos parang solo. Pero he said, ’Ayaw ko,’ so we’ll do duets. We’ll be singing, ’Somewhere Over the Rainbow,’ but medyo pa-indie, reggae, ganun."

She’s also proud because on the day of her concert, the clothing brand that she endorses will be selling T-shirts that she designed herself.

"Sa concert ko, I designed T-shirts and Penshoppe produced it for me. So, it’s not the typical album cover na T-shirt, its the Solenn Heussaff line."

The two-night concert dubbed Solenn On Stage will take place on August 19 and 26 at Teatrino, Promenade in Greenhills Mall, Manila.
