On the night of December 10, top-selling concert and recording artist Ogie Alcasid sent a text message to his friends and to the entertainment press that include YES! magazine and www.pep.ph. The message went:
"Guys, I’m having a fund-raising concert for typhoon Reming victims on December 16 at Klownz Araneta, 10pm. Tickets are at P600. Please help. Thank you. —Ogie Alcasid."
This is not the first time that the small-but-terrible singer-songwriter has embarked on charity work. In fact, he makes it a mission to share his time and his God-given talent to similar projects whenever he can.
Last January 8, for instance, he participated in talent manager Bibsy Carballo’s annual gift-giving effort at the Movie Workers Welfare Foundation (Mowelfund) Film Institute compound in Cubao, Quezon City.
Ogie—along with stars like Lovi Poe and couple Ricky Davao and Jackielou Blanco—gave gifts, sang songs, and played with the children of film industry workers, namely the stuntmen and behind-the-scenes personnel. Bibsy, who spearheads the post-Christmas project every year, did not have to ask Ogie twice to join.
Ogie also joined his S.O.P. co-star Regine Velasquez in her outreach concert mounted by the Philippine Movie Press Club (PMPC) held last May at the Zirkoh Music Bar in Greenhills, San Juan. The fund-raising campaign, dubbed as "Caravan of Love," was for the victims of the Leyte landslide tragedy that happened in February.
