For the past few weeks, viewers of Celebrity Duets have been entertained by the wacky gimmickry of Tim Yap every time he went up on stage to perform. However, his colorful singing career abruptly ended yesterday, September 22, when he was voted out from Celebrity Duets.
Before the celebrity contestants presented their numbers, Mitch Valdez—one of the judges of the competition—noted that the performers were leaning mainly towards gimmickry. "Let's bring it back to musicality," she reminded the contestants. The two other judges are musical composer Louie Ocampo and Buboy Garovillo of the APO Hiking Society.
Dr. Hayden Kho, Jr. promised to give the audience a "sizzling performance." The model surprised the viewers last week by baring his torso during his rock star performance. This time, he contented himself with adding pink and blue locks to his hair while singing "This is the Moment" with Robert Seña.
Jessica Rodriguez-Bunevacz then performed "Come What May" with Martin Nievera. The entrepreneur was declared part of the bottom three contestants that night. Dr. Manny Calayan sang a duet with another novelty singer, K Brosas, who was the latest thespian to play the heroine Zsa Zsa Zaturnnah in the fifth run of the musical. The two sang "Ewan" of the APO Hiking Society. Talent manager Wyngard Tracy gave an upbeat number with Gabby Eigenmann for the song "This Love" by Maroon 5.
A cat-and-dog tandem in harmony was the concept behind Tim Yap's performance shown yesterday on the Kapuso Network. Tim wore a canine costume while Jose Manalo were a feline costume as they sang "I Say A Little Prayer For You." Mike Hanopol strummed his guitars as Tessa Prieto-Valdes gave a rousing performance of "Laki Sa Layaw."
In the last part of the program, Tim and Wyngard were set aside by Celebrity Duets hosts before announcing who would be eliminated from the reality singing competition. It was then declared that eventologist Tim Yap would be saying goodbye to everyone.
Celebrity Duets, which is hosted by Regine Velasquez and Ogie Alcasid, airs every Saturday night on GMA-7.
