Filipino shows and hosts nominated in 2007 Asian Television Awards

Gina Pareño is nominated inthe category Best Drama Performance by an Actress of the 12th Asian TelevisionAwards. In the "Jail" (Rehas) episode of Maalaala Mo Kaya, the veteranactress portrayed the story of a mother distraught over her three mentally sickchildren.

A total of thirteenfinalists will represent the Philippines at the 12th Asian Television Awards (ATA)to be held in Singapore this November.

Five programs, two hosts andtwo comedians have been nominated from GMA-7 while three television programsand one drama performance by an actress in a show come from ABS-CBN.

The winners of the 2007 Asian Television Awards will beannounced at the awarding ceremony at the Suntec Convention Hall in Singaporeon November 29, 2007.

It was reported in PEP (Philippine EntertainmentPortal) last August 23 that Bandila made history as the first Philippinenewscast to be nominated in the International Emmy Awards this year. Theprogram's coverage of "The Subic Rape Case Promulgation" is the sameepisode that earned a nomination in the ATA. Unfortunately, ABS-CBN lost to the "Lebanon Crisis" episode of BBCNews (BBC United Kingdom).

The two news programs of theKapamilya Network—Bandila and TV Patrol World—are competing inthe Best News Program category of this year's ATA. GMA-7's 24 Orasdistinguished itself for the coverage of "Super Typhoon Milenyo."

ABS-CBN's noontime game show Pilipinas Game KNB?bagged a nomination for Best Game or Quiz Program, while Gina Pareño wasrecognized for her performance in the episode "Jail" (Rehas) aired in MaalaalaMo Kaya for Best Drama Performance by an Actress category. This MMK episodewon the Special Award in Drama in the recently concluded Seoul Drama Awards.

Michael V won the Best Comedy Performance by an Actorfor three years in a row (2004, 2005 and 2006). This year, the comedian ispitted against Bubble Gang co-host Ogie Alcasid.

Launched in 1996, the AsianTelevision Awards usually gives out honors for over 30 categories includingBest Documentary Program, Best News Program, Best Cinematography, and BestCurrent Affairs Presenter. According to the official website of the ATA, theorganizers this year have reduced the choices to 29 categories to "ensure betterrepresentation of the productions in Asia."
