“I memorized all the songs in the movie. My mom and dad were very impressed. They made me sing sa mga family gatherings.
“Music is in my blood. My grandmother is a classical singer while my grandfather is a pianist. My uncle Arnoldo is a cabaret singer in Seattle. And my aunt, music composer Cecilia Azarcon-Inocentes, gave me voice lessons when I was 6 years old.
“My aunt is famous for her compositions such as "How Did You Know," "Reaching Out," "Ikaw Ang Lahat Sa Akin" to name a few.
“Sa kanya ko natutunan yung proper breathing and how to pronounce the words of the song properly. She’s a very good voice coach,” kuwento pa ni Timmy nang makapanayam namin siya sa Alphonse Bistro sa City Golf Plaza in Pasig City last March 7.
“I always pray for his guidance.
“But I still have my mom and my half-siblings. Both my parents had children from different partners bago ako pinanganak.
I have seven half-siblings and they we are very close. Masaya sila that I made it to Kanta Pilipinas.”
The year after I auditioned again and I made it to the second round.
“But somebody said that they don’t need another David Archuleta type.
“Kaya I realized that it wasn’t for me. Baka I was meant for better things.”
Nalaman namin that Timmy produced his own album na naglalaman ng mga Christian songs noong nasa U.S. pa siya.
“My first single is a Christian song composed by Arnel De Pano titled "Second Chances," which is so meaningful to me as it gave me a chance to reach out to our kababayans who were victims of the recent floods in the Philippines.
“But I still love to diversify my genre with different types of songs, modern and old.”
“My lola lives alone and she’s 87 years old. She’s my dad’s mom. Walang mag-aalaga sa kanya since my dad already passed away. She’s my favorite lola kaya I volunteered to take care of her.
“I resigned from my job at Gap in Seattle to start a new life here in Manila.
“Hindi ko naman first time umuwi ng Pilipinas because nagbabakasyon naman kami ng mommy ko to visit my lola whenever we can and when we can afford it.”
After a year of settling down in the Philippines, nabalitaan ni Timmy about the audition for Kanta Pilipinas.
“I told myself na ayoko nang mag-audition. Napu-frustrate lang kasi ako.
“But my friends told me to give it another try. Baka nga suwertehin na raw ako this time kasi nasa Pilipinas na ako.
“I thought about it many times. Paano kung ma-reject na naman ako? I know that there are many good singers out there willing to try out. Ayoko na kasing ma-frustrate ulit.
“But things turn out differently. Before I knew it, I was one of the 24 contestants and we were shooting the music video for Kanta Pilipinas with Lea Salonga.
“I thank God for giving me this chance to prove my worth as a singer.”
Ngayon at kasama nga siya sa Top 12 finalists, does he expect to win the contest?
“Lahat naman kami, gusto naming manalo.
“Magagaling lahat, eh. I am just lucky that I was able to become part of the Top 12.
“Marami pa ang mangyayari and all I want to do is to give the best performance para lalong bumilib sa akin ang mga judges na sina Mr. Ryan Cayabyab, Ms. Lani Misalucha and Rico Blanco.
“I always keep in mind and mga comments nila sa akin. I have to get out of my comfort zone and prove that I can be a versatile singer.
“If God wants me to win, then it will happen.
“All I can do is pray, do my best and leave everything in His hands.”
Kung meron nga raw siyang gustong maka-duet in the future kung sakaling magkaroon na siya ng solo album, type niyang maka-duet si Angeline Quinto.
“I watched Angeline many times sa YouTube and sa ASAP. And she has a very good voice.
“I would love to have a duet with her. And I like to get to know her as well.
“Since product din siya ng mga singing contest on television, we might have something in common.
“Hopefully I can get to meet and sing with her soon.”
