PRESS STATEMENT FROM GMA:
"GMA News and Public Affairs’ Eleksyon 2013 coverage was not only first in content and first in nationwide ratings for the May 13 elections; it also used sophisticated graphics technology to make election related facts and figures easily comprehensible and relevant to its audience.
"Aside from airing real-time tallies for national and local positions straight from the Commission on Elections’ transparency server, GMA also used immersive graphics, powered by VIZRT software and interfaced with a tracking system to show important voters’ guidelines as well as additional background on senatorial candidates and significant historical facts on the elections.
"One of the highlights of GMA’s video graphics was a presentation of the 33 senatorial candidates who seemed to be posing inside GMA’s massive election set – a visual effect much lauded on social media. This effect was also later used in the succeeding newscasts on GMA and GMA News TV to show the ranking of the leading senatorial candidates.
"Using historical data gathered by GMA News Research, GMA also used immersive graphics to present 3D charts of election related violent incidents and killings involving elected government officials. Other immersive graphics aided anchors in showing the step-by-step voting procedure, voting dos and don’ts, and interesting trivia about senatorial bets.
"Election day buzz about senatorial candidates was also translated on-air via a colorful presentation of GMA News Online’s Kandidato Buzz Index. Online users’ voting experiences, surveyed via GMA News Online’s Voting Experience Poll, were also displayed as live immersive graphics.
"Throughout the coverage, GMA also used an expansive virtual screen projected on the Eleksyon set to flash news highlights and live video from its 47 remote points around the country.
"GMA’s Eleksyon 2013 graphics not only “immersed” its anchors in every presentation. More than just showing the latest tallies, the stunning graphics also helped engaged the audience in a better understanding and appreciation of the elections."
