Lovi Poe wants to drop her sexy image for now

Lovi Poe looks forward to working again with award-winning filmmaker/actress Laurice Guillen in the upcoming GMA-7 soap, Akin Pa Rin Ang Bukas. The 24-year-old “Primera Aktresa” previously worked with Laurice when she served as the director in her Magpakailanman stint last February. Lovi recalled picking up an acting technique from her director: “Ngayon ko lang na-realize [na] masakit pala yung insulto! Kasi dati, o

Lovi Poe, who recently received the “Primera Aktresa” title from the GMA Network, is bent on reinventing herself in her upcoming soap opera, Akin Pa Rin ang Bukas.

Except for her daring Bench Body endorsements, the actress sees herself dropping the sexy image temporarily. Lovi has previously displayed her sultriness in her film projects such as Temptation Island, My Neighbor’s Wife, and The Bride and The Lover.

“Siguro I’ve done so much of that. Nakakapagod din,” she reasoned out at a solo press conference held last July 12, Friday. She likewise stressed that the “Primera Aktresa” tag has nothing to do with her decision.

Her character, Lovella, in Akin Pa Rin Ang Bukas calls for a new Lovi.

“Nag-ipon ako ng balde-baldeng luha,” told the actress, who is used to portraying strong characters over meek ones.

Lovella, the love child of her mother, will suffer greatly and towards the end, she will seek revenge on the people who have made her life difficult.

“Gagawin niya lahat para makamit yung tagumpay kasi nga ang daming nag-put down sa kaniya,” explained Lovi about her character.

She also mentioned how she plans to “attack” her role: “Si Lovella, siguro kasi I don’t want it like the usual.

“Siguro I’ll finally do my homework for this soap… Or pero hindi rin naman.

“Medyo I can relate naman sa storya ni Lovella. So siguro naman hindi ako masyadong e-effort… Joke lang yun!”

Has she previously experienced being “put down” before when she was starting out in showbiz?

Lovi hinted, “Basta, I’m over it!

“Bubuksan na lang natin yung wounds na yan pag nagte-taping na tayo,” she said with a laugh.

DIREK LAURICE. Playing the long-suffering Lovella would push Lovi out of her comfort zone.

“Mas sanay ako sa strong na character.

“It’s more… not me. Hindi, joke lang!” she said with a chuckle.

“It’s more… mas napapaglaruan mo yung mga strong na character and mas puwede ka mag-adlib. Hindi siya limited.

“Kasi ito [Lovella], kailangan mo gampanan nang maayos na wala masyadong pinaglalaruan.

“Yun ang mahirap, e,” she mused.

As she anticipates the challenge, Lovi is also looking forward to being directed again by multi-awarded filmmaker and actress Laurice Guillen.

Lovi's Magpakailanman stint, where she portrayed a rape victim, proved to be an enriching experience. The project gave her the opportunity to work, for the first time, with Laurice who served as the director of the said project.

She recalled a technique that the director instructed her to do.

“Kinakabahan ako dahil may mga bagay kasi siyang pinaggawa sa akin before na I never thought would work sa Magpakailanman.

“Meron siyang pinaggawa sa akin na I never used before.”

She continued, “May iba kasi akong ginagamit na motivation para maka-iyak ako.

“Pero may iba siyang sinabi sa akin na I never thought would work.”

Direk Laurice, according to Lovi, asked her to call to mind a person who insulted her in the past.

“Sabi ko, ‘Insulto? Hindi naman ako masyado nahe-hurt sa insulto.

“Most of the time bina-brush off ko lang yung mga ganyan,” Lovi said at that time.

The actress narrated how Direk Laurice made her recall the memory over and over until tears would not stop.

“Masakit pala siya. Dati hindi, e.

“Ngayon ko lang na-realize [na] masakit pala yung insulto!

“Kasi dati, okay, dedma lang ako sa ganyan or nasanay lang ako magdedma.

“[But] she opened that gate sa akin.”

The feeling of “sadness and pain” makes her cry, but never an insult.

“Gagamitin ko lang siya pag kailangan. So thank you sa kanila.”
