In what contest can you see Lee Min Ho, Lady Gaga, Marian Rivera, Noli de Castro, and two Jake Cuencas battle it out for a P300,000 prize? Nowhere else but in It’s Showtime’s Kalokalike Level Up Face 2, a month-long contest that aims to find the best celebrity impersonator on Philippine TV.
For this purpose, ABS-CBN’s noontime show held a press presentation last August 24 at its Dolphy Theater in Quezon City. The 72 contestants vying for the title of the Ultimate Kalokalike were introduced to members of the press.
The celebrities being impersonated range from local actors, singers, and politicians, to foreign acts that have unique personalities.
A brief sampling: Showtime hosts Karylle, Anne Curtis and Ryan Bang, singers Jed Madela, Sarah Geronimo and Nina, comedians Michael V., Cacai Bautista and Tado, as well as foreign artists Taylor Lautner, Wiz Khalifa and Ja Rule. Even President Noynoy Aquino is in the roster.
The contest already started on August 26 and will end on September 21. Aside from the P300,00 top prize for the winner, Showtime will also give out P200,000 and P100,000 to the runners-up.
To prove their copycat skills, these 72 wannabes faced the press while assuming the persona of the celebrity they are embodying.
The press got a kick out of talent manager Alfie Lorenzo’s look-alike. The real Alfie, who was in the audience, even grilled his copycat, much to the amusement of the audience.
Other contestants had to face questions about the issues that their real-life counterparts are facing. Judy Ann Santos’s look-alike had to answer speculations about her transfer to TV5, Chito Miranda’s look-alike had to answer questions about his sex video, and Bong Revilla had to answer questions about the pork barrel controversy.
Contestants who emulated talented singers were also asked to sing. Some rose to task very well, like the look-alikes of Jessica Sanchez, Nicki Minaj and Dulce.
Asked why they joined Kalokalike Level Up Face 2, some shared their personal reasons. “Vhong Navarro” said he wants to be a role model for the youth, while “Ara Mina” wanted a share of her idol’s limelight.
