Maalaala Mo Kaya nominated in Drama category of 41st International Emmy Awards

In the "Manika" episode of Maalaala Mo Kaya, Angel Aquino (wearing pink) portrayed the mother of Jane Oineza's character who was raped.



ABS-CBN's longest-running drama anthology, Maalaala Mo Kaya, is nominated in the Drama category of the prestigious International Emmy Awards this 2013.

According to a PEP source, MMK was cited for its episodes titled "Pulang Laso" (starring Carlo Aquino and Joem Bascon) as well as "Manika" (starring Jane Oineza and Angel Aquino).


MMK is hosted by ABS-CBN President Charo Santos-Concio. In the "Pulang Laso" episode, Carlo Aquino and Joem Bascon portrayed bisexual lovers.

Meanwhile, in the "Manika" episode of MMK, Jane Oineza portrayed a young girl who was raped while her mother (played by Angel Aquino) assisted in the crime.


In the official website of the International Emmys, it was indicated that MMK is competing against three other shows in the Drama category.

Aside from the Philippines, the countries competing in the Drama category are France (Les Revenants/Rebound), Brazil (Next in Line) and the United Kingdom (Accused).

Winners are expected to receive awards on November 25, 2013 at the 41st International Emmy Awards Gala in New York.


Last August, it was reported that GMA Network's 24 Oras and I-Witness programs were nominated in the News and Current Affairs categories of the 41st International Emmy Awards.

24 Oras was cited in the News category for its in-depth coverage of Typhoon Pablo, considered as the world's deadliest natural disaster in 2012.

Meanwhile, Kara David's I-Witness documentary on children's rights titled "Alkansiya" earned a nomination in the Current Affairs category.

Gmanetwork.com reported that anchors Mel Tiangco and Mike Enriquez were in New York last October 1 to receive medals for the nomination on behalf of 24 Oras. The ceremony was held at the Frederick P. Rose Hall of Jazz at Lincoln Center.
