Feb 13, 2014

PRESS STATEMENT FROM TV5:

Michael Christian Martinez, the first homegrown Filipino figure skater in the Winter Olympic Games, gets to display his Olympic form, to be seen live by millions of Filipinos via TV5's Sochi 2014 coverage this Thursday, February 13, at 11pm.

In one of the most anticipated Winter Olympics events, Michael will be facing tough competition in the Men’s Short Program where he hopes to at least land in the top 24. The 17-year-old Olympian will need to showcase his best as the Men’s Figure Skating already consists of some tough contenders like Russia’s Yevegeny Plushenko, Japan's Yuzuru Hanyu, and Canada’s Patrick Chan.

“In Sochi, it would be very challenging for me because I will be competing against seasoned and veteran skaters. Some are former Olympians who have been skating maybe before I was even born. Sa tingin ko it would be very difficult for me, but I’m ready,” Michael said in anticipation of his competition this Thursday.
