GMA-7's new epic series, Sahaya, aired its pilot episode yesterday, March 18.
The new Pinoy teleserye opened by showing Sahaya (Bianca Umali), a Badjaw girl who graduated with honors.
She asked her mother, Manisan (Mylene Dizon), to join her on stage. The young girl paid tribute to her mother who worked hard to give her proper education.
The backstory of Manisan was then shown.
The young Manisan (Jasmine Curtis-Smith) had a secret relationship with Harold (Gil Cuerva), a man who hails from Manila.
Manisan wanted to introduce Harold to her parents and dreamed of getting married to him. However, he told her angrily, "Hindi ako Badjaw. At hindi ako magaasawa habang nasa college ako."
Manisan was then forced to marry Aratu (Benjamin Alves).
Halfway through the wedding ceremony, Manisan suddenly threw up.
A "panday" or a traditional doctor then checked the condition of Manisan and found out that she is pregnant.
Aratu was surprised by the news. He pointed out that nothing has happened between him and Manisan yet.
However, the panday insisted that she is carrying a child, which angered the camp of Aratu.
