Lyca Gairanod of Cavite emerged as the first grand champion of The Voice Kids after garnering the highest percentage of text and online votes during the two-night finale of ABS-CBN’s singing-reality show.
The nine-year-old singer was able to take home P1 million, a one-year recording contract with MCA Universal, house and lot, a home appliance showcase, a musical instrument showcase, and P1 million worth of trust fund.
According to a statement furnished by the corporate communications department of ABS-CBN, the contestant mentored by Coach Sarah Geronimo “led the public voting based on the Power Ballad, Upbeat Song, and Special Performance with a Celebrity Guest rounds.”
Darren Espanto, another representative of Team Sarah, came in second place.
Meanwhile, Juan Karlos Labajo of Team Bamboo and Darlene Vibares, who was mentored by Lea Salonga, placed third and fourth, respectively.
Lyca gave her rendition of Regine Velasquez’ “Narito Ako” and Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe” during the performance night last July 26.

During the July 27 show, Lyca gave version of “Basang Basa sa Ulan,” which she performed with band Aegis, earning a standing ovation from coaches Lea Salonga, Bamboo, and the audience at Resorts World Manila.

Lyca is the daughter of a fisherman from Tanza, Cavite. She sometimes helps her mother scavenge junk to sell in order to raise funds for her seven siblings. Lyca also previously revealed that she would perform for her neighbors in exchange for cash or food.
The Sunday finale also featured performances from Darren and Martin Nievera (“You Are My Song”), Juan Karlos and Gary Valenciano (“Eto Na Naman”), and Darlene and Lani Misalucha ("You Don't Have to Say You Love Me").
The opening number of the finale featured the Final Four young artists, the three coaches, and The Voice of the Philippines Season 1 grand winner Mitoy as well as finalists Klarisse de Guzman, Myk Perez, and Janice Javier.
Hosted by Luis Manzano and Alex Gonzaga, The Voice Kids started airing on the Kapamilya Network last May 24.
According to ABS-CBN, The Voice of the Philippines Season 2 for adults is expected to premiere before the year ends.
MEGA MANILA RATINGS. In Mega Manila, The Voice Kids was able to get higher ratings compared to its rival shows on GMA-7.
Last Saturday, July 26, The Voice Kids was able to get higher ratings compared to Marian Rivera's dance show, Marian.
The Voice Kids registered 31.8% for its almost two-hour episode.
During its first hour, The Voice Kids was pitted against Marian that had a rating of 18.9%.
During the second hour, its counterpart was GMA Blockbusters' Snakes on a Plane that had a rating of 22%.
As for the Sunday, July 27 episode, The Voice Kids got a rating of 29.2%.
On rival network GMA-7, the reality show overlapped with Vampire Ang Daddy Ko (which got 11.6%) and Ismol Family (that registered 14.6%).
NATIONWIDE RATINGS. According to data from Kantar Media, the reality singing competition scored an all-time high national TV rating of 37.7% during the July 26 performance night.
Meanwhile, the episode last Sunday, July 27, registered 37.2%.
There is no data yet available for Kantar ratings of rival shows on other networks.
