Shy Carlos talks about being paired with Jerome Ponce in Be Careful With My Heart

"Sobrang swerte ako na naisama ako sa Be Careful With My Heart. Yung mga nakaka-work mo marami kang matutunan kasi nakikita mo kung paano sila magtrabaho,” says Shy Carlos who plays the love interest of Jerome Ponce a.k.a. Luke in ABS-CBN's hit daytime soap.

“Slowly but surely.”

This is how Shy Carlos described her pursuit of stardom in showbiz for the last eight years.

She has appeared in different teleseryes in the three major TV networks and made a debut appearance in the movie A Secret Affair as Anne Curtis’s younger sister.

Most recently, Shy has joined the cast of ABS-CBN’s hit daytime soap, Be Careful With My Heart.

In the story, she is cast as Jerome Ponce’s fellow intern, whose friendly demeanor and instant rapport with his twin sisters added to his attraction towards her.

“I am Joni. Kasama ko si Luke [played by Jerome] na nago-OJT [on the job training] sa company nila Sir Chief.

“Yung character ko galing sa mahirap, medyo hardworking at ipinaglalaban yung gusto niya,” said Shy in an interview with (Philippine Entertainment Portal).

LEARNING FROM CO-STARS. Asked how she feels about being part of a very successful series, Shy shared that it’s truly a blessing because she learns a lot from her co-stars.

“Sobrang swerte ako na naisama ako sa Be Careful With My Heart.

“Yung mga nakaka-work mo marami kang matutunan kasi nakikita mo kung paano sila magtrabaho.”

The Filipino-Swiss actress added that she didn’t have a hard time establishing rapport with Jerome and her other co-stars considering that she’s a late addition to the cast.

“Siyempre close na sila dahil two years nang umeere yung show. Pero ina-accept nila with open arms.

“Four weeks ago lang na-introduce yung character ko.

“So far si Jerome ang palagi kong nakakaeksena. Nakakatawa siya. Mahilig siya mangasar. So ok naman.”

Working with Richard Yap a.k.a. Ser Chief is a revelation to Shy since she didn’t expect him to be the funny type of colleague off cam.

“Si Sir Chief, mabait at nakakatawa siya. ‘Pag naka-standby, may mga hirit siya na benta.

“So parang hindi ko in-expect. Mukha kasi siyang seryoso sa TV.”

At this point, Shy maintained that she’s happy with the way her career is going.

Managed by Viva’s talent arm for the past six years, she’s confident that she’ll get her big break in showbiz with patience and hard work.

“Happy ako kasi ang dami naming artists, isa ako sa kinu-consider na Viva princess. Ok naman ako na slowly but surely yung takbo ng career.”

Amongst the celebrity A-listers, Shy said she looks up to fellow Viva artist Anne Curtis.

“Siyempre si Anne kasi ang dami niyang endorsements at shows. Parang icon na siya.

“Gusto ko yung way kung paano [na-develop] yung career niya. Slowly but surely.”

Aside from Be Careful With My Heart, Shy is also one of the VJs in MTV Pinoy together with Sam Pinto and Yassi Pressman.

OUTSIDE SHOWBIZ. Despite her busy schedule, the second year Consular and Diplomatic Affairs student tries her best to keep up with her academic requirements in College of St. Benilde.

“Actually, nung pumili ako ng school for college, inisip ko mag-take ng course na nagtuturo ng ibang language. Requirement siya for that course.

“At the same time, gusto ng dad ko na mag-Law ako. E, pre-law course yun so perfect.

“Kung mag-enjoy ako puwede kong ituloy. Pero happy na ako kung mag-graduate ako kasi puwede kang maging diplomat or ambassador sa course na pinag-aaralan ko ngayon. Big thing na yun.”

Asked how she juggles her school with showbiz, Shy explained, “May nadro-drop na subjects pero pipilitin na masabay.

"Nalilito pa ako kung mage-enroll ako next semester.

“Kasi may show na hindi pa sure kung makukuha tapos may Be Careful. Saan ko isisingit? Ngayon pumapasok ako ng morning class every Tuesday and Thursday.”
