Filipina wife of Sentai actor decries botched interview; Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho issues apology

Georgette Anne Inaba, the wife of Inaba Kazunori who played Red Mask in Maskman, says they will buy gifts for the Sentai actors who were inconvenienced by the Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho interview that did not materialize. KMJS is hosted by Jessica Soho (right frame).

The news magazine show Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho was recently embroiled in a controversy arising from an interview with the Japanese Sentai actors that never materialized.

As it developed, a researcher of KMJS contacted actor Kazunori Inaba (screename: Ryosuke Kaizu), who played the Red Mask in the popular ‘90s show Maskman, and his Filipina wife Georgette Anne Inaba.

The staff member also asked the help of the Inaba couple in rounding up other Japanese actors who could be interviewed for the show.

The actors were popular in the 1990s for their roles as superheroes in the Sentai shows Fiveman, Turbo Ranger, Dairanger, Bioman and Maskman.

The idea was to gather them for a reunion that was supposed to be a feature of the GMA magazine show and the interview was scheduled last September 2 in Japan.

Mrs. Inaba agreed and proceeded to contact the other Sentai stars, who all said yes to the invitation. According to her, some of the actors cancelled previous commitments to accommodate her request.

But she was utterly dismayed and embarrased when, as the day of the interview neared, no one from the Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho program called for confirmation.

As there was no one from the network she could ask about what was happening, she turned to social media to air her dismay.

PLEASE..PLEASE share this. MARAMI PONG SALAMAT.”

Georgette's online censure of KMJS for the botched interview quickly went viral.

A day after, August 31, at 6:56 p.m., a statement was posted on the Facebook page of Kapuso Mo Jessica Soho regarding Mrs. Inaba’s complaint:

Two hours later, at around 8:30 p.m. Mrs. Inaba added more information regarding the incident.

MRS. INABA SPEAKS. In an exclusive interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) via private messaging, Mrs. Inaba gives more details about the incident.

In her reply, she reveals that the representatives of Fiveman, Turbo Ranger, Dairanger, Bioman and Maskman already agreed to do the supposed interview.

Mrs. Inaba says that she expressed her disappointment on social media because she was not getting feedback from the KMJS researcher.

“Sunday yun, August 31. Ang supposed to be interview was September 2 at 5:00 p.m. Sa resto namin ang interview.

"Then sabi niya tulungan namin sila for the other actors.

“Pero before nun wala siyang update.

"Then all of a sudden cancel ng Sunday, two days before the interview.

APOLOGY. According to Mrs. Inaba, the researcher did not try to reach her again. Instead it was the producer of the GMA show who sent her a message.

She relates, “Di ko na nakausap yung researcher after the incident.

She says further that the program’s executive producer apologized for the inconvenience.

“Nagalit lang ako kasi yung researcher walang update after niyang humingi nang tulong na pati sana yung ibang actors kausapin namin for the interview.

RYOSUKE KAIZU REACTS. Mrs. Inaba clarifies in her private message that her husband bears no ill feelings toward his Filipino fans.

Mrs. Inaba also expresses her gratefulness for the support and kind messages of her husband's fans even after all these years.

“After the incident dun namin nalaman na marami pa palang supporters ang mga actors at masaya sila doon,” she affirms.

She also wrote in her Facebook account that Red Mask wants to go back to the Philippines to prove to his loyal fans that he does not begrudge them.

Mrs. Inaba translates, “Ang sabi po ni REDMASK, 'Thank you for the continuous support. I'm excited to go back someday in Philippines and see you all.'”

POSSIBLE REUNION. In the end, Mrs. Inaba does say that they are still willing to be interviewed by the Philippine media.

On her Facebook account, Mrs. Inaba hinted of a possible reunion in the Philippines.

She posted last September 2, “Sa lahat po nang Tokusatsu fans marami pong salamat.

“Maraming marami pong salamat.”

In her Facebook message, she tells PEP, “Next year siguro if kaya dahil medyo mahirap at mabigat din sa budget but I'm trying my best to make it happen.

Meanwhile, PEP has sought the side of the producers of Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho, GMA-7, which issued this statement:

Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho deeply regrets that our staff member failed to give immediate feedback to Mrs. Inaba on the status of the interview. As soon as we were informed of Mrs. Inaba’s concern, we immediately reached out to her and apologized for the inconvenience this has caused. The program strictly adheres to the Network’s protocol regarding this matter and this is already the subject of an administrative proceeding. Thank you.”
