Drew Arellano fulfills dream of hosting TV show for kids

Drew Arellano on hosting Bonakid Pre-School Ready Set Laban: “It’s amazing. Some of you guys know that my manager is Tito Boy [Abunda]. Every single year, I tell him, ‘I wanna host a TV show for kids."

A self-proclaimed child at heart, Drew Arellano feels fortunate to be hosting the kiddie game show Bonakid Pre-School Ready Set Laban Season 2.

“It’s amazing. Some of you guys know that my manager is Tito Boy [Abunda]. Every single year, I tell him, ‘I wanna host a TV show for kids.’

“I enjoy the company of kids. I love kids. Kids give me energy. I’m a kid myself,” said Drew in a recent interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal). His new show will air every Sunday, beginning October 5, on GMA-7.

Having grown used to hosting Biyahe ni Drew and Aha! for GMA Network’s News and Public Affairs, the 34-year-old TV host said that it’s quite refreshing to be doing a game show this time around.

The husband of Iya Villania says he is ready to take on the challenges that await him with this new project.

“Ever since my dad [the late Atty. Aga Arellano] told me, ‘Just enjoy what you’re doing. You never have to work a single day in your life.’

“And that’s what I do now. This is such a bonus. It’s not really work for me,” he reiterated.

Drew pointed out that one of the things he likes about Bonakid Pre-school Ready Set Laban Season 2 is the way it promotes Filipino games.

He added that it creates a more meaningful bonding experience between the kids and their moms.

“We give importance to Filipino games because kids nowadays are just in front of their tablets and computers.

“I’m not saying it’s a bad thing. It’s also good for them.

“But most of us grew up at a time where you go out, you play, you sweat. And when you go home, your mom will ask you, ‘Saan ka na naman nanggaling?’ ‘Sorry mommy, nagpatintero kami d’yan.’

“What are we gonna do this year are Palarong Pinoy with a twist.”

Aside from the show’s bigger game arena, the game show will also feature contestants who auditioned from different parts of the Philippines.

Viewers at home can also have the chance to win as much as P20,000 by watching the show and submitting their entries via www.gmanetwork.com/promos/readysetlaband.
