GMA-7 presses on with its quest for exceptional vocalists through its reality singing search, The Clash, which started its second season on September 21, 2019.

At the same time, the network is continuing to groom and polish the performance in different platforms of the winner and finalists of The Clash's first season.

One of them is Anthony Rosaldo, who finished in the Top 6 and was the last clasher to get eliminated in the first season.

Although Anthony was not in the winning rung, he is now a certified Kapuso artist and the first Clasher to have a concert.

In this exclusive interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal), Anthony looks back on his journey in The Clash and other reality shows that has led to where he is headed now as one of GMA-7's homegrown singers.

ANTHONY ROSALDO'S STINTS IN GMA-7 AND ABS-CBN SHOWS

Anthony's first attempt at a reality show competition was in GMA-7's singing search, Pinoy Pop Superstar (PPS), where popular singers Jonalyn Viray a.k.a. Jona, Aicelle Santos, and Maricris Garcia started their careers.

He can't remember what year he joined PPS, which ran from 2005 to 2007, but he recalls being very young then.

He says, "Bata pa ako noon, super young. Anim kami.

It took him years before he found the courage to enter another singing competition on television. In 2015, he joined Eat Bulaga's "Spogify featuring Singing Bae" and made it to the grand finals. GMA-7 actor Yasser Marta was one of his co-finalists.

But then the following year, he changed venue and went to ABS-CBN where he competed in the Pinoy Boyband Superstar and in the "Tawag ng Tanghalan" segment of It's Showtime.

Anthony relates what happened then, "After ng Eat Bulaga! ko, grand finalist ako, hindi ko na alam paano ise-step up yung career ko.

After "Tawag ng Tanghalan," another opportunity opened for Anthony at GMA-7, and he grabbed at the chance to audition for The Clash.

Getting the final callback means a contender is in the Top 62 of The Clash, and Anthony nearly missed it.

"Buong araw yun, parang 7 a.m., nasa GMA lang kami 'tapos double time.

ANTHONY ROSALDO'S THE CLASH JOURNEY

Before the competition proper, Anthony received training in workshops for the 62 Clashers.

He recalls, "Everything has changed after that kasi after ng Top 62, rigorous na yung training namin, for two months everyday kami sa GMA.

"Very, very generous ang GMA, they provided allowance; hindi lang singing yung workshop namin, meron kaming personality development, meron kaming dance.

"So sobrang swerte kung sasali ka dahil hindi ka mag-e-end up lang na singer ka, performer ka."

The winner of The Clash is the last man standing, and the real "clash" begins when each of the remaining contenders who have advanced farther into the competition fights it out against everyone for the winning spot.

"So palagi, I made sure na everytime makikita ako ng mga tao I look good.

"E, judges will get bored. They might say na, 'Last time, ginawa mo na 'yan, gagawin mo uli. Same putahe.'

"Ilang putahe yung kailangan kong ipakita, e, ilang beses akong lumaban.

ANTHONY ROSALDO GETS ELIMINATED BEFORE THE FINALS

Anthony toughed it out through Top 62 clashes to make it to Top 12, and finally to Top 6.

In The Clash, only five finalists continue to the live grand finals.

In season one, In the episode before the live grand finals, Anthony clashed against Jong Madaliday for a Top 5 slot.

The judges had a hard time deliberating who would get eliminated, and in the end they chose Anthony.

Apart from Jong in the Top 5 were Mirriam Manalo, Garrett Bolden, Josh Adornado, and the grand winner Golden Canedo.

How did Anthony feel during his elimination?

The 25-year-old singer answers, "Lahat ng clashers na natanggal, umiyak. Hindi ako umiyak.

"Kasi alam ko sa sarili ko that I did my 100 percent best and they cannot take that away from me.

"Ako, naging matapang. Hindi ako iiyak. In-accept ko yung defeat ko na parang victory pa rin na ang layo nito, bukas grand finals na, pero I gave you a good show."

It was the morning after the taping of the grand finals when it sank in to Anthony that he was out of the competition.

To make matters worse, Anthony had to attend a press conference and appear in talk shows, including PEP.ph's online talk show, PEPLive, to promote the finals.

Since his elimination had yet to be aired, Anthony had to pretend he was still part of the contest.

He recalls, "Ang sakit. Medyo down ng konti pero kasi you have to smile. We even did a presscon, ganun din. Panggap. May TV promo din yata kami.

"Mahirap, dahil alam mo, at saka meron ka pang bala, may sine-save ka pa for the grand finals.

"Pero sa aming anim, maganda naman yung nangyari sa amin after The Clash, so doon pa rin naman nagtatapos, happiness pa rin naman."

LESSONS FROM THE CLASH MASTER AND JUDGES

For Anthony, one of the best parts of his Clash journey was working and mingling with the veteran singers.

Christian Bautista, Lani Misalucha, and Ai-Ai Delas Alas were the judges in season one.

Anthony narrates, "Kay Sir Christian, unang-unang naalaala ko about him, mas para sa akin, mas naging malinis ako sa pagkanta ko because of him.

Anthony also learned a lot from The Clash master and host, Regine Velasquez, who would always give them advice before stepping on the stage.

Anthony holds the distinction of being the first Clash graduate to have a concert and the first to release a single.

In June 2019, Anthony headlined a concert called Revelation, along with Kapuso singer-actress Mikee Quintos.

Prior to that, he launched a single titled "Larawan Mo," which had a music video featuring GMA-7 actress Kris Bernal.

He beams, "Ang bilis nga.

"So, super happy. At saka alam kong marami pa akong gagawin."

Anthony feels indebted for the many lessons he has learned from his experience in The Clash, which by way of paying back he now imparts to clashers battling for their spot in the showbiz industry.

"Huwag kang masasaktan.
