Jed Madela opened up about his life before showbiz and admitted that he has considered leaving the music industry in the past.

The ABS-CBN singer was recently recognized during the 41st Catholic Mass Media Awards when he won the Best Secular Album trophy for Superhero.

As for his future plans, Jed disclosed, "I really want to direct a concert for another artist. I'm also going on another U.S. tour in January 2020 and I'm prepping another really exciting album."

In an exclusive interview with Jed recently, (Philippine Entertainment Portal) asked the singer to clarify rumors saying that he was being choosy about the singers whom he would perform with on ASAP.

Saan nanggaling iyon?

"I-view niyo lahat ng mga performances ko lately, I've been singing with the new artists, I've been singing with the singers of Idol [Philippines].

"I've been singing with the singers of Tawag ng Tanghalan. So hindi ko alam kung saan galing ang chismis na iyon. Baka ibang tao yun, hindi ako.

"Ako, I love performing with other artists, may it be a senior or a new artist kasi mas nacha-challenge ako as an artist.

"I'm very interested sa mga ganun. Kaya yung lumabas na chismis na iyon,
hindi ako yun. Ibang tao yun."

Does he have a say in choosing the persons who will perform with him in production numbers of ASAP?

"Wala naman. Kasi ako, kung sino ang sinasama sa akin sa ASAP, game naman ako.

"Kung sino man ang ka-prod ko, never akong...Sa 15 years ko, never ako humindi o nagsabi na 'ayoko makasama ito.' Never ko nagsabi ng ganun."

The World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA) champion quipped: "As long as kumakanta, [game ako]. It depends on the purpose. Kung joke time, game pa rin naman

ako. As long as may purpose."

Did he feel offended by the blind item insinuating that he had an attitude problem?

"Hindi naman na-offend pero na-bother lang ako."

During the general press con, asked Jed: did he ever feel that he wanted to quit showbiz?

"Many times!" he admitted. "There were times na nafu-frustrate ako, nadi-disappoint ako sa mga nangyayari. But then, I'm just so blessed to be surrounded by people who believe so much in me kahit na ako mismo, hindi na naniniwala sa sarili ko. Nandiyan pa rin sila para mag-push sa akin.

Jed revealed that he even considered getting another job.

"There were many times when I wanted to quit. Nag-iisip na nga ako kung anong pwede kong gawin.

"But then, always may certain force na dumadating para bumalik ang passion ko para sa trabaho at sa pagkanta."

What incident triggered him to think about shifting careers?

Jed narrated, "First was when I lost my voice. It was acute laryngitis...yung kahit salita, kahit whisper, I couldn't say anything.

"I was so scared na nag-iisip na ako kung anong pwede kong gawin na hindi involved ang boses ko.

"Sa awa ng Diyos, bumalik naman siya. But I had to re-learn how to sing again and how to start from scratch.

"I was scarred mentally. It reached a point na ayaw ko na bumirit kasi baka pag bumirit ako, baka bumalik yung sakit."

Aside from experiencing this medical condition, Jed also went through a phase of self-doubt.

"There was a time when I felt that I wasn't significant anymore. I felt I wasn't relevant anymore sa industriya na ito. I felt like quitting.

"Iniisip ko: 'kailangan pa ba ako dito?'

"Minsan pagod na din. Iniisip ko if it's still worth it, lahat ng pagod."

What stopped Jed from leaving showbiz?

"Then I see all the people who go out of their way to go to my shows, to buy tickets, buy my CDs. Sila nga hindi napapagod na bumiyahe, ako pa kaya na I just go up the stage and sing?"

What could have been the job of Jed had he not pursued a career in the music industry?

The 42-year-old performer pointed out: "Di ba, I'm from Iloilo. Originally, pumunta ako dito sa Manila para maging isang flight attendant.

"I was supposed to be a flight attendant. Nag-apply ako and I was already scheduled for training.

"Pero umiba yung tadhana at na-discover ako ni Ronnie Henares. Doon na nagsimula ang lahat.

"Na-discover niya ako at sinabi niya na may potential ako na maging isang singer."

Aside from this, Jed was almost made to do a job that was totally unrelated to singing.

Finally, my dad gave up. Sabi niya, 'diyan ka talaga.'"

The ABS-CBN singer then disclosed his motivation for wanting to become a flight attendant in the past.

"Yung purpose ko sa pag-flight attendant para makapag travel ako around the world. Ngayon nagagawa ko rin naman."
