GMA-7 is set to launch five new prime-time programs in time for its 70th anniversary in 2020.
The Kapuso network released its quarterly omnibus plug for new shows yesterday, December 16, 2019.
One of the shows included in the plug is the much-anticipated remake of the Korean drama Descendants of the Sun, starring Jennylyn Mercado and Dingdong Dantes.
Marian Rivera is also set to make her comeback in 2020 via a TV series with Gabby Concepcion.
Real-life couple Carla Abellana and Tom Rodriguez will reunite with Rhian Ramos for a family drama in 2020.
Bong Revilla, who won the senate elections in May 2019, will also top-bill his own weekly prime-time show in 2020.
Here are the five prime-time shows that are part of the Kapuso network's 70th anniversary offerings:
GMA-7's remake of Descendants of the Sun is finally airing this 2020.
Jennylyn Mercado and Dingdong Dantes will play the lead characters Maxine and Lucas, respectively.
Rocco Nacino and Jasmine Curtis Smith will play the second leads.
The omnibus plug also showed the iconic shoelace scene of Maxine and Lucas from the original Descendants of the Sun. This was re-enacted by Dingdong and Jennylyn.
The last scene showed Dingdong's soldier character, Lucas, holding the Philippine flag.
Directed by Dominic Zapata, Descendants of the Sun is expected to be shown during the first quarter of 2020 on GMA Telebabad.
After Barbie Forteza's much-talked about 2019 series, Kara Mia, she is set to make a prime-time comeback via Anak ni Waray vs. Anak ni Biday. This project is a remake of Maricel Soriano and Snooky Serna's 1984 movie of the same title.
In the TV series, Barbie will play the role of Maricel, while Onanay actress Kate Valdez will play the role of Snooky.
Snooky Serna and Dina Bonnevie are cast as the respective mothers of Barbie and Kate's characters.
The teaser showed two friends, Ginalyn (Barbie) and Caitlyn (Kate), riding a bike together while vlogging.
They were spotted by their mothers who do not approve of the young girls' friendship. Sussie (Dina) told Caitlyn not to trust Ginalyn, while Amy (Snooky) asked Ginalyn to stop being friends with Caitlyn.
Apparently, Amy and Sussie are former friends who became rivals.
GMA-7 has yet to announce when Anak ni Waray vs. Anak ni Biday will air on the network's Telebabad block.
Real-life couple Carla Abellana and Tom Rodriguez, who last worked together in the 2017 series I Heart Davao, are set to top-bill the upcoming series Love of My Life.
Carla and Tom will also reunite with Rhian Ramos, who worked with them in the 2014 prime-time series My Destiny.
Mikael Daez and veteran actress Coney Reyes complete the cast of this family drama.
In the teaser, the characters of Carla, Rhian, and Mikael were welcomed by Coney to her mansion. Viewers get to see that Tom's character is in a wheelchair.
Tom can be heard saying that he wishes for his family to be complete. Meanwhile, the other characters seemed to have been forced to come to the mansion.
Carla plays Tom's wife, while Rhian plays the mother of Tom's child.
Love of My Life, which had its story conference in mid 2019, is expected to air soon on GMA Telebabad.
First Yaya is the prime-time comeback of Marian Rivera after giving birth to her second child.
The teaser showed Gabby Concepcion's character, who is the President of the Philippines, giving a speech. His speech was disturbed when his rowdy kids suddenly appeared and caused a ruckus at the event.
Marian, who plays their nanny, ran after and tried to discipline them.
Gabby then decided to introduce his kids to the public. During the picture taking session, Marian posed for a photo with the First family. This prompted Gabby to ask why she was posing with them. Marian only answered with an awkward smile, "Sorry, sir!"
First Yaya also features Pancho Magno as Gabby's bodyguard.
The new program is set to air this 2020 on GMA Telebabad.
Senator Bong Revilla is set to make a TV comeback via the weekly series Agimat ng Agila.
It was first reported in PEP Alerts's Cabinet Files column that Bong will do a comeback show that might replace the ongoing fantasy anthology, Daig Kayo ng Lola Ko.
In the plug, Bong carries a rifle while running in a forest. He is closely followed by an eagle.
"Ako at ang aking kaibigan, kami ang magsisilbing tagapagtanggol ng Inang Kalikasan," vowed Bong.
According to the plug, Agimat ng Agila will air on GMA-7's Sunday prime-time block.
The network has yet to release its line-up of shows for the GMA Afternoon Prime block. These include the remake of Bilangin Ang Bituin Sa Langit to be top-billed by Kyline Alcantara, Mylene Dizon, and Nora Aunor; and a still-untitled show starring Carmina Villarroel, John Estrada, Pauline Mendoza, Kristoffer Martin, and David Licauco.
