ABS-CBN released the trailer for its upcoming military-themed series, A Soldier's Heart, on December 20, 2019
The new Kapamilya series depicts the lives of soldiers, as portrayed by Gerald Anderson, Carlo Aquino, Jerome Ponce, Vin Abrenica, Yves Flores, Nash Aguas, and Elmo Magalona.
Gerald is an aspiring soldier whose parents, played by Rommel Padilla and Mickey Ferriols, are opposed to his decision.
Carlo plays a Muslim who decided to enter the military to serve his fellowmen.
Nash's character joined the military to earn money, while Yves wanted to follow the footsteps of his brother, played by Ketchup Eusebio, who is part of the army.
Jerome is also an aspiring soldier who wants to serve the country, Elmo is cast as a soldier who feels like his efforts are not enough, while Vin plays Gerald's rival.
The trailer indicated that Gerald and his fellow soldiers are fighting against rebels led by the character played by Sid Lucero.
It turns out that Gerald's real mother, portrayed by Irma Adlawan, is part of the rebel group being pursued by Gerald's group.
Sue Ramirez is also part of the cast as a female soldier.
A Soldier's Heart serves as Gerald Anderson's comeback series after two years. His last teleserye was the daytime series Ikaw Lang Ang Iibigin, his reunion project with Kim Chiu. The project aired from May 2017 to January 2018.
The announcement for this TV series happened in May 2018, and production started soon after.
A Soldier's Heart is Elmo Magalona's second teleserye in ABS-CBN after he transferred from GMA-7 in late 2015. Elmo's first Kapamilya series was Born For You, aired in 2016.
The show also serves as a follow-up project for Jerome Ponce and Nash Aguas, who received well-applauded performances for the 2017 series The Good Son.
Several veteran actors are also part of A Soldier's Heart, including Raymond Bagatsing and Isay Alvarez, who are both staging a comeback in ABS-CBN after doing projects with GMA-7.
Raymond's last TV series was the GMA-7 political rom-com TODA One I Love, while Isay was previously seen in the Kapuso afternoon series Magkaagaw.
Isay's character in Magkaagaw was recently killed on the show, and her last scenes aired only a few days before the trailer of A Soldier's Heart was launched.
It was not reported if Isay's character was killed off in Magkaagaw to give way for A Soldier's Heart.
The ABS-CBN series befan taping in 2018, while Magkaagaw only started production in mid-2019, and was aired in October 2019.
Ariel Rivera and Irma Adlawan, who still appear in their respective Kapamilya shows SanDugo and Pamilya Ko, will also play important roles in A Soldier's Heart.
A Soldier's Heart, formerly titled Take Life, is directed by Richard Somes, while its creative team is headed by Jerry Gracio.
A Soldier's Heart is produced by RDC Narratives under the Scripted Format division of ABS-CBN.
RDC Narratives, headed by Roda C. Dela Cerna, is the same unit that produced The Killer Bride. ABS-CBN's Scripted Format division is headed by Ruel S. Bayani.
According to the trailer, A Soldier's Heart is set to air in January 2020, but its timeslot has yet to be announced.
There are those who believe that it will replace The Killer Bride in the third prime-time slot. The Killer Bride has yet to announce when it will exactly air its last episode, but the show already had its finale press conference in December 2019.
Judy Ann Santos's drama series, Starla, has already announced that it is down to its last three weeks. There are reports saying that it will be replaced by Liza Soberano and Enrique Gil's 2020 teleserye, Make It With You.
