The implementation of the enhanced community quarantine and the need for physical distancing has prompted networks to come up with new ways to present their programs.
Sunday variety shows have now evolved from being studio based to home based streaming shows that still maximize star power.
ABS-CBN's ASAP Natin 'To and GMA-7's All-Out Sundays both found ways to connect with their respective audiences through online live streaming apps last Sunday, March 29, 2020.
ASAP Natin 'To was shown on ABS-CBN Channel 2, while All-Out Sundays was aired live via GMA-7's YouTube and Facebook accounts. An old episode was aired on GMA Channel 7 that day.
ASAP NATIN 'TO FIRST NO-CONTACT SHOW
The March 29 episode of ASAP Natin 'To is its first no-contact show after two weeks of airing replays.
Hosts Luis Manzano, Billy Crawford, Regine Velasquez-Alcasid, Ogie Alcasid, Zsa Zsa Padilla, Erik Santos, Martin Nievera, Gary Valenciano, and Sarah Geronimo-Guidicelli opened the show by appearing simultaneously onscreen through a live streaming application.
Luis told ASAP viewers, "Medyo kakaiba ang show natin ngayon dahil lahat kami, nasa ating mga bahay at sana kayo din dahil alam natin na meron tayo ngayong enhanced community quarantine."
Gary expressed gratitude for the fact that they were able to continue their show through technology.
He said, "I'm thankful that technology has allowed us to continue what we do best kasi may sinabi sa akin dati si Sir Jose Mari Chan, yung music, yan yung boses ng ating kaluluwa and nagpapasalamat ako na binigyan tayo ng pagkakataon na hindi lang makapag entertain pero makapag-inspire ng marami.
"Kasi ang sinasabi nila, pagdating sa trahedya na dumadapo sa isang bansa, it's entertainment yung hinahanap ng tao, parang yun ang release nila, parang isang paraan para makayanan nila yung bigat ng hinaharap nila sa labas, pero ngayon nasa loob tayo ng bahay."
The hosts also asked the newlywed Sarah Geronimo about her life with husband Matteo Guidicelli during the quarantine. The couple celebrated Matteo's birthday last March 26.
Sarah was seen using Matteo's live streaming app account that day.
She narrated, "Si Matt just celebrated his birthday noong 26.
"Medyo mixed emotions lang din, sabi nga niya sa akin, 'Love, parang hindi ko matawag na happy yung birthday ko.'
"Kasi talagang nadudurog yung puso niya sa mga nababasa niya, naririnig niya na balita sa mga nangyayari, especially sa mga kababayan natin na helpless talaga na hirap na hirap sa mga pagkakataong ito.
"At bago nga niya i-blow yung birthday candles niya, ang wish niya sana matigil na itong COVID-19 na virus na ito. So, medyo nakakalungkot talaga, ano."
Billy then gave an update about ABS-CBN's "Pantawid ng Pag-ibig" project, which has already distributed P100 million worth of food for those in need.
Performances that were taped at the homes of the hosts and performers were then shown to the public.
First was Regine Velasquez-Alcasid's rendition of "Heal Our Land," which also featured the Villancico Vocal Ensemble.
ASAP Birit Queens Jona Viray, Morissette Amon, Klarisse de Guzman, and Angeline Quinto had a virtual reunion with their performance of Jun Polistico's "Mahiwaga."
"Mahiwaga" is an inspirational song that Angeline performed for the 2011 prime-time series 100 Days To Heaven, which is currently being re-aired on ABS-CBN.
Martin Nievera and Zsa Zsa Padilla performed a duet of "Umagang Kay Ganda," while Erik Santos gave his rendition of "Sapagkat Diyos Ang Pag-ibig."

The song iaims to uplift the spirit of Filipinos amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
During his spiel, Billy commented, "Talent talaga ng Pinoy yung kahit na anong pinagdadaanan mo, e, hahanapin talaga yung kasiyahan."
ASAP Natin 'To then aired performances of real-life couples Moira dela Torre and Jason Hernandez, KZ Tandingan and TJ Monterde, as well as Sarah Geronimo and Matteo Guidicelli. These numbers were previously aired during the "Pantawid ng Pag-ibig" special concert on March 22.
Zsa Zsa Padilla paid tribute to the late singer Kenny Rogers by performing his hit songs.
Love Thy Woman stars Kim Chiu and Sunshine Cruz also taped dance numbers together with their respective family members.
Darren Espanto and Inigo Pascual performed a virtual duet of "Pagsubok."
Jessa Zaragoza, who is a regular of GMA-7's Pepito Manaloto but also does guest appearances in ASAP Natin 'To, performed "Basta't Kasama Kita" together with husband Dingdong Avanzado and daughter Jayda.
"Basta't Kasama Kita" is a song popularized by Dingdong released in 1989.
Megastar Sharon Cuneta also made an appearance in ASAP Natin 'To in order to give her rendition of her song "Both Sides Now." This was the theme song of her 2002 movie Magkapatid.
ASAP Natin 'To ended its March 29 episode with the launch of ABS-CBN's inspirational music video of the song "Ililigtas Ka Niya."
"Ililigtas Ka Niya," one of the theme songs of FPJ's Ang Probinsyano, has been turned into an inspirational song that unites Kapamilya singers in order to uplift the spirit and faith of Filipinos amid the world's battle against COVID-19.

GMA-7's newly launched variety show, All-Out Sundays, aired a replay of past performances for the third Sunday of community quarantine.
However, via the streaming app Zoom, the Kapuso talents joined forces to hold a streaming show aired over GMA-7's Facebook and YouTube accounts.
This is the second Sunday that All-Out Sundays held a streaming show from the homes of its hosts.
Comedians Michael V., Betong Sumaya, and Paolo Contis served as the main hosts throughout the online show.

Kapuso teen stars showcased their talents in doing the dance moves popularized by TikTok. This app allows its subscribers to do shortform dance moves that last from 15 to 60 seconds.
Some of those who performed TikTok dance moves were: Kyline Alcantara, Rodjun Cruz, Lexi Gonzales, Miguel Tanfelix, Kisses Delavin, Karl Aquino, Arra San Agustin, Kris Bernal, Shayne Sava, Radson Flores, Abdul Raman, Vince Crisostomo, Mark Bautista, Allen Ansay, twins Cassy and Mavy Legaspi, and Paul Salas.
Real-life couple Jennylyn Mercado and Dennis Trillo brought their CoLove performances from their vlog to the All-Out Sundays online show.
CoLove is Jennylyn and Dennis's unplugged music show that is uploaded in Jennylyn's YouTube channel. It had a concert version last February 14, 2020.
Sanya Lopez appeared with her dog Paris to show viewers how to groom dogs while staying at home during the quarantine.
Chariz Solomon taught viewers how to cook tuna steak, while Chynna Ortaleza demonstrated how to do milk tea at home.
Kapuso sexy actresses Kris Bernal, Valeen Montenegro, Lovely Abella, and Kapuso hunk Ruru Madrid also showed viewers basic workout routines that they could do at home.
Veteran performers Manilyn Reynes, Eugene Domingo, and Ai-Ai delas Alas were some of the guests of the online show.
Manilyn, who appears in the sitcom Pepito Manaloto, took viewers on a trip down memory lane when she performed her classic hit, "Sayang Na Sayang."
After Manilyn's performance, Michael V. introduced the singers who joined the live streaming session.
One of them was The Clash season one winner Golden Canedo.
Michael V. said, "Kasama rin natin si Golden ngayon. Kahit hindi man maganda ang boses natin, golden man lang yung face natin, okay na!"
Golden, who was still laughing over Michael V.'s punchline, suddenly made a mistake in saying the last name of Manilyn.
She said, "Andiyan naman si Miss Manilyn Reyes!"
Eugene Domingo and Michael V. laughed as they corrected Golden's blooper.
After Chariz Solomon finished her cooking segment, and just as Manilyn was about to leave the livestream, Paolo Contis used Golden's blooper as his punchline.
He said: "Pero siyempre, huwag nating kalimutang pasalamatan si Manilyn Reyes! Hahaha!"
Ruru quipped, "Uy, easy!"
Manilyn, who was trying to downplay the blooper, admonished him with a smile: "Pao!!!"
Golden smiled and said: "Pasensya na!"
Paolo then quipped: "Sorry kailangan ko talagang ihirit. Hindi ako makakatulog."
Michael V. remarked: "Na-excite, na-excite si Golden."
Golden said: "Pasensya na po, Manilyn Reynes po pala. Na-excite lang po talaga ako!"
Manilyn told her with a smile: "It's okay, Golden."
Michael V. added: "Idol niya kasi yun. I'm sure kaya noong nakita niya... lalo na siguro pag nakita mo siya in person."
Michael V. quipped: "Baka makalimutan mo pangalan mo!"
During the last part of the online show, GMA-7 showed a video of Broadway singer-actress Rachelle Ann Go giving a message to Filipinos.
Rachelle Ann currently lives in London.
The Filipina actress will reprise her Fantine role in the West End staging of Les Miserables. She said in her video message, "Hello, mga Kapuso! This is Rachelle Ann Go and we've been self-isolating here in London for the past two weeks at alam po nating lahat na hindi madali ang pinagdadaanan natin at ng buong mundo.
"But know that God is with us and now is the time to really put our home with Him. Some of you might be bored at home doing nothing but I really encourage you to reach out to your family members, loved ones, even your old friends abroad or in the provinces.
"At marami na po tayong mga Pilipinong napagdaanang mga kamalidad. But I know that we will make it through if we help each other and stick together. Do not fear guys because God has not given us the spirit of fear. I'm praying for you all and I love you, and most importantly, stay home, God bless you!"
The three-hour live streaming show ended with the launch of GMA-7's inspirational music video of the song "Pagsubok."
The Kapuso network gathered together all of its singers to take part in the music video, which aims to uplift the spirit of Filipinos in the midst of the pandemic.
The video started with a message from Alden Richards who said: "Sa panahong sinusubok tayo ng pagkakataon, sama sama tayong kumapit at manalangin na kaya natin itong malagpasan.
"At nawa'y mas maging bukas palad pa tayo at buong puso po tayong tumulong sa mga nangangailangan. Hindi man natin nahahawakan ang isa't isa, darating din ang panahon na maghihilom ang lahat at mayayakap natin ang isang bagong umaga, basta't walang mawawawalan ng pag-asa.
"Marami-rami na rin tayong pinagdaanan at nalagpasan. Pagsubok lang ito. Pilipino tayo."
The Kapuso singers who are part of the music video are: Julie Anne San Jose, Christian Bautista, Aicelle Santos, Betong Sumaya, Glaiza de Castro, Rita Daniela, Paolo Contis, Rayver Cruz, Gabbi Garcia, Michael V., Rhian Ramos, Mark Bautista, Jeremiah Tiangco, Garrett Bolden, Camille Prats, Katrina Halili, Lexi Gonzales, Shayne Sava, Allen Ansay, Abdul Raman, Vince Crisostomo, Radson Flores, Karl Aquino, Gabbi Garcia, Kyline Alcantara, Miguel Tanfelix, Ruru Madrid, Jak Roberto, Jeric Gonzales, Derrick Monasterio, Rocco Nacino, Edgar Allan Guzman, Carla Abellana, Tom Rodriguez, Boobay, Kakai Bautista, Megan Young, Mikael Daez, Ken Chan, Dingdong Dantes, Marian Rivera, Derek Ramsay, Pops Fernandez, Carmina Villarroel, Zoren Legaspi, Cassy and Mavy Legaspi, Golden Canedo, Thea Astley, Jong Madaliday, and Lani Misalucha.
