GMA-7's three official YouTube channels—GMA Network, GMA Public Affairs, and GMA Regional TV—were hacked on August 19.
The name of GMA Network was momentarily changed to “SpaceX Live,” while both GMA Public Affairs and GMA Regional TV were assigned the same name, "SpaceX Promo."
GMA Network has 18.8 million subscribers, GMA Regional TV has 127,000 subscribers, and GMA Public Affairs, 11.7 million subscribers.
The hacker even managed to livestream a video about cryptocurrency via the “SpaceX Live” channel.
But very quickly that same morning, GMA-7 was able to quickly recover its YouTube accounts from the hackers.
That evening, August 19, PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) asked Angel Javier-Cruz, GMA Network’s vice president for Corporate Communications, about the hacking incident.
Responding to the message, Javier-Cruz said that an e-mail address was “compromised” and immediately corrected.
According to Dennis Caharian, GMA New Media, Inc.’s president and COO, “There was one e-mail address that was compromised but it was rectified right away.”
GMA Network Youtube channel houses video clips and special content from the network’s entertainment group, including its drama and other programs.
The GMA Public Affairs account houses clips and highlights of the programs produced by GMA-7’s Public Affairs department.
GMA Regional TV shows the content of GMA-7's regional programs, which is broadcast in the network's regional channels.
GMA News, the Kapuso network’s Youtube channel for its newscast programs and livestreams, was safe from the hacking incident.
