It was in 2009 when Bugoy Carino joined show business.

Born in 2002, Bugoy at six years old became a finalist in the third season of Star Circle Quest for the Next Kiddie Idol (SCQ), which was then a segment in the daytime talk show Ruffa and Ai.

Among his co-finalists were Xyriel Manabat and Izzy Canillo.

His mother, Remedios Carino, revealed in a VTR interview that she used to look at the photos of Rico Yan, who died in the year she was pregnant with Bugoy.

She said, “Pinaglihi ko siya kay Rico Yan bago mamatay si Rico Yan noon, si Rico Yan ang pinaglihian ko!”

During his SCQ stint, Bugoy was popular for his dance moves, particularly his head spin, where one balances on his head and rotates.

Apart from his dance moves, Bugoy also captured the hearts of mothers watching the show because of his cute facial expressions.

Director Jose Javier “Joey” Reyes, who was also a juror during the semi-finals, acknowledged Bugoy could be a threat to other finalists.

He said, “Iyong apat na nanalo noong previous weeks, ito ang dapat ninyong talunin!”

As it happened, Bugoy's performance earned him a spot in the grand finals.

During the grand finals, Bugoy performed a medley of dance hits where he showed his cramping and head-spinning dance moves.

Direk Joey commented after his performance, “May mga bata na may likas na talent ano, and yung pagsayaw ni Bugoy, di iyan pinag-aralan, likas yan.

"Ikalawa, iyong looks niya, pang-camera iyong dating. At saka pangatlo, Bugoy, manalo o matalo ka man sa contest na ito, may career ka na.”

Bugoy was hailed as the Kiddie Grand Questor for that season and, true enough, he had a bright career ahead of him.

Part of his prizes was a management contract with ABS-CBN, which instantly built him up as a child actor.

After SCQ, Bugoy was immediately cast in a weekend series titled Tiagong Akyat.

A remake of Ramon Revilla Sr.’s 1973 movie, the series had Gerald Anderson in the title role with Bugoy as his son.

He was also included in the growing cast of the kiddie gag show Goin’ Bulilit, along with his other co-questors Izzy and Xyriel.

In 2012, two years after his win in SCQ, Bugoy got his big break in a teleserye in the prime-time series E-boy.

In this teleserye, Bugoy played E-boy, a robotic toy with qualities that are similar to a human.

However, the series ran for just 11 weeks to give way to the series Princess and I, starring Kathryn Bernardo, Daniel Padilla, and Enrique Gil.

In the same year, Bugoy top-billed the Filipino horror-drama film Alagwa with Jericho Rosales which had its world premiere at the 17th Busan International Film Festival.

The movie earned Bugoy his first international award, Best Supporting Actor, at the 1st Asean International Film Festival and Awards.

In the following years, Bugoy would become part of several teleseryes and Wansapanataym episodes.

It was in 2017 when Bugoy, already a teenager, was relaunched as a teen actor-dancer and was tapped to be a member of It’s Showtime’s Hashtags.

It started with a blind item in early 2018 about the suspension from It’s Showtime of two members of Hashtags.

Clues and guesses pointed to Bugoy and Jon Lucas, as both actor-dancers were no longer seen in the show at that time.

Rumors had it that Bugoy and Jon had gotten their girlfriends pregnant, which was not allowed in their program contact.

Bugoy, at 15, allegedly fathered the son of volleyball player EJ Laure, who denied her pregnancy in a Facebook post.

Later, in March 2018, Hashtags member Jameson Blake revealed that both Bugoy and Jon were suspended indefinitely.

Even though he was not seen in Showtime, Bugoy was included in the mini series Spirits: Reawaken, which was launched on iWant (now iWant TFC) in November 2018.

Bugoy’s last appearance in ABS-CBN was in an episode of Ipaglaban Mo in 2019.

In November 2019, during a media conference, Bugoy admitted being in a relationship with EJ but denied being a father.

On September 4, 2020, Bugoy and his girlfriend EJ made headlines when he posted a family photo and introduced their daughter, Scarlet.

The announcement was made on September 3, Bugoy’s 18th birthday.
