Katrina Halili is undoubtedly one of the most successful products of GMA-7's StarStruck (2003).

Part of the reality talent competition's first batch, she was the seventh finalist to be eliminated.

But her exit proved to be the beginning of her life as an actress.

Years later, in 2014, it was revealed in the talk show Basta Everyday Happy that Katrina did not actually audition for StarStruck.

In fact, she was discovered by one of the show’s talent scouts!

Totoo ba?

In her PEP Exclusives interview, Katrina tells the whole story.

“So parang nag-i-spot sila, so nakuha ako doon. Hinding-hindi ko makakalimutan.”

How was Katrina discovered by the StarStruck talent scouts?

Katrina recalls asking the talent scout: “Anong StarStruck?”

After finding out that StarStruck was an artista search, Katrina remembers telling the staff, “Ay, e ayoko po, ate!”

She hesitated when asked to show some of her talents.

Katrina then said, “Naku, ate, wala po akong talent!’

She sang then got a callback days later.

KATRINA HALILI: THE RELUCTANT STAR

Though she already made it to Top 100, Katrina came up with excuses just to not make it to the screening.

She continues her story, “After a week, tinawagan na ako, pupunta na doon [sa studio].

“Siyempre, top 100 ako, may pila-pila.

But she was destined to join the show.

And each time she would back out, a staffmember of StarStruck would wait for her to come back.

Katrina now says about this, “Basta gano’n iyong nangyari sa akin sa StarStruck na iyan!

After Katrina made it to the Top 14, all the finalists of StarStruck were brought to John Robert Powers, a school for personality development.

Katrina recalls taking acting classes with her female co-finalists: Yasmien Kurdi, Nadine Samonte, Jade Lopez, Sheena Halili, Cristine Reyes, and Jennylyn Mercado.

"'Act crazy, act ganito, act ganyan.’ Alam niyo ba naka-ilang pass ako? Lima!”

Because Katrina could not get the right instruction, she was scolded by her teacher.

To this day, Katrina cannot forget the words of her acting teacher.

Everything seemed new to Katrina at the time since she had zero experience in showbiz.

Now, Katrina believes that some things in life are meant to happen.

Katrina remains active in showbiz. She is part of GMA-7’s afternoon drama series Prima Donnas.

The teleserye currently airs recaps of its past episodes as its whole cast resumes taping for fresh episodes.
