Jennylyn Mercado and Rhian Ramos had a short kissing scene in GMA-7’s prime-time daily anthology special, I Can See You.
Top-billing the week-long installment “Truly, Madly, Deeply,” Jennylyn and Rhian play estranged best friends who meet again years after their squabble.
The back story of Jennylyn and Rhian’s characters was shown during the series’ pilot episode on October 19, 2020.
The kissing scene was featured in the same episode.
Coleen (Jennylyn) and Abby (Rhian) are best friends in high school who treat each other like sisters.
Abby confesses to Coleen that she likes her more than a friend, and kisses her on the lips.
The move shocks Coleen, prodding her to stay away from Abby.
During the pilot episode, Rhian posted on Twitter about her kissing scene with Jennylyn on national TV.
She tweeted, “Hi. Nakiss ko na si Miss Jennylyn Mercado. Surprise! #ICSYTMD”

This was not the first time Rhian had a kissing scene with a woman for a TV series.
In 2015, she played the role of Jade Tanchingco in The Rich Man’s Daughter, where she had a kissing scene with Glaiza de Castro.
However, the scene was not aired on TV due to the restrictions of the Movie Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB).
Rhian and Jennylyn’s scene received varying responses from viewers and her fans, who were surprised since same-sex kissing scenes are usually not aired on TV.
Chynna Ortaleza, who was part of Kapuso shows My Husband’s Lover and The Rich Man’s Daughter, wrote in her tweet, “The advancement. I remember struggling with the idea that expressions of love between the same sex on television [were] frowned upon & monitored ever so closely during the time of MHL & TRMD.
“Pwede na po ngayon? Maraming salamat kung ganun.”
Here are other comments:
Jennylyn’s real-life boyfriend, Dennis Trillo, is also part of I Can See You’s “Truly Madly Deeply” installment, as Coleen’s present-day stalker.
“Truly, Madly, Deeply,” which will run until October 23, is directed by Jorron Monroy, who directed GMA-7 teleseryes like Kambal, Karibal and Hanggang Sa Dulo Ng Buhay Ko.
