Is Aljur Abrenica returning to GMA-7?
The StarStruck 4 Ultimate Hunk did a guest appearance in Eat Bulaga’s “Bawal Judgmental” segment on December 28, 2020.
Talent manager Leo Dominguez posted an outtake of Aljur’s guesting on his Instagram account.
This marked his first appearance in GMA-7 three years after he transferred to ABS-CBN.
“Bawal Judgmental” had been guesting non-exclusive ABS-CBN artists since the network stopped its broadcast in May 2020.
Aljur’s guesting raised questions from netizens, most of them asking if he is making a Kapuso comeback:
ALJUR ABRENICA: FROM KAPUSO TO KAPAMILYA
Aljur started his career in 2006 via GMA-7’s reality show StarStruck. He was then groomed to become one of Kapuso network’s leading men.
In 2014, Aljur filed a complaint to end his contract with GMA-7, citing several reasons. But the issue was resolved in late 2015, and was able to star in four shows.
In March 2017, when his contract ended, he received an offer to join ABS-CBN’s FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano.
Afterwards, he did a string of projects with ABS-CBN, including the teleseryes Asintado and Sandugo, and episodes of Ipaglaban Mo and Maalaala Mo Kaya.
In July 2020, Aljur’s remark about the renewal of ABS-CBN franchise drew flak from Kapamilya fans.
When asked to comment on the shutdown of ABS-CBN, Aljur said: "Hindi naman sa hindi ako vocal... actually, pro-franchise po ako.
"Siyempre, that’s my mother network now. Marami rin silang naitulong sa akin.
"Pero it’s beyond me. Ibig kong sabihin, their fight is their fight.”
Aside from ABS-CBN fans and employees, Kapamilya actress Liza Soberano voiced out her disappointment over Aljur’s remark.
Aljur's next TV appearance after the ABS-CBN shutdown was via Net 25’s Happy Time.
He is also busy filming a movie titled Escape From Mamasapano.
