OPM icons Randy Santiago and Rey Valera will be seen in the comeback of TV5’s singing game show, Sing Galing.

Both accepted TV's offer to do Sing Galing after finishing their stint as hurados in It’s Showtime’s “Tawag ng Tanghalan” segment, which ended its fourth season in February 2021.

In Sing Galing, Randy will be one of the hosts and Rey one of the judges called “Juke Bosses” in the game show.

In an exclusive Zoom interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) on March 24, Randy and Rey explained their decision to join Sing Galing.

REY VALERA LEAVES IN GOOD FAITH

Rey, who was a punong hurado in “Tawag ng Tanghalan,” said, "Definitely, tinapos ko iyong season hanggang doon sa finals bago ako mag-commit sa Sing Galing.

The OPM hitmaker added he made sure he left the show in good faith, “Wala naman akong kaaway, pero subukan ko naman kayang ibang venue or road.

“Ang ano lang, marami kang kakilala, kaibigan na andito na and, of course, ang home mo is where your friends are.

Rey also said he is not exclusive to any network and made it clear it wasn't anything like, in his words, “parang nagtraydor ka sa loyalty.”

Another factor that convinced Rey join Sing Galing was knowing he would be also with friends who used to be part of It’s Showtime.

He said, “Nagkataon naman, iyong mga nag-exodus, sila naman ang sinundan ko. Parang ganun lang naman iyon, e.

“Hindi personal, nagiging personal because iyong attachment mo with them. Pero sa istasyon, hindi. It’s the people who you cling to.”

RANDY SANTIAGO RETURNS TO HOSTING

Like Rey, Randy finished the fourth season of "Tawag ng Tanghalan" first before deciding to accept the offer to do Sing Galing.

It wasn't the only offer he got while he was still doing “Tawag ng Tanghalan.”

Randy said, “May mga kumukuha sa atin even before the season ended, kung puwede ako sumali sa ganito, puwede ako mag-host.

"Parang ganun, compared to, of course, being a hurado there. Of course, maganda iyong hurado doon, e.

"Wala namang problema, e. Pero, for me, to go back to hosting, medyo malaking bagay para sa akin.

Ayun ang nag-trigger sa akin to do Sing Galing.”

Randy maintained he has always kept his options open, which means he is not closing his doors to “Tawag ng Tanghalan.”

After all, the judges in “Tawag ng Tanghalan” are not permanent fixtures in the show; they come and go on a rotation basis.

“In fact, kaya nga hindi natin sinarado, e.

“Of course, they have the option naman to get us. Pero di ba, in time.

“Pero in the meantime, hindi muna namin iniisip iyon dahil itong ginagawa naming Sing Galing gusto muna natin paliparin.

"Lahat ng nalalaman namin, ibibigay namin dito.”

Sing Galing first aired from 1998 to 2002 on TV5 (formerly ABC-5) on a weekly timeslot.

This time, Sing Galing is set to premiere on April 5, 2021 on TV5’s prime-time block at 6:30 p.m from Monday to Friday.

TV5 and Cignal deliberately planned to air it in a prime-time slot with the tagline, “Kantawanan Sa Hapunan.”

Both Randy and Rey assured they will deliver the show's promise to bring fun to its audience more than to produce the best singer.

Randy told PEP.ph, “Dapat mapanood niyo si Kuya Rey dito... Kapag pinanood niyo itong Sing Galing, ibang-iba si Kuya Rey.

"Kung nasanay tayo for many years na punong hurado iyan, e, nakaganun lang si Kuya Rey, medyo istrikto iyong tainga niyan, any time mago-gong iyan.'

“As long as hindi pangit na pangit siguro kasi sigurado lalabas at lalabas si genie.”

Genie is a 3D character in Sing Galing that will come out when a contestant does not pass the standards to enter the next round, much like the gong in "Tawag ng Tanghalan."

Randy continued, “As long as you can carry a tune, alam mo ang lyrics, iyon naman ang buhay ng karaoke, e.

According to Rey, their main aim is to bring laughter to the show's viewers, especially since its timeslot is usually occupied by news programs.

Rey explained, "We came up with a consensus, ng pagkakaintindihan na wala munang tension, wala tayong ipapalabas na lungkot dito.

"Instead na bigyan sila ng tension or bigyan sila ng something to worry, ano muna tayo, good vibes muna.

Randy’s co-hosts in Sing Galing are K Brosas and Donita Nose while the judges are composed of Rey, Jessa Zaragoza, and Ronnie Liang.
