GMA Network chairman and CEO Felipe L. Gozon has explained the reason behind the network's decision not to renew some of its prized contract artists.
It was an issue raised by the PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) through e-mail for the network’s annual stockholders’ meeting last May 19, 2021.
In the answers sent via e-mail yesterday, June 3, Gozon said, “We are definitely retaining our prized stars and talents.
“However, we only want to maintain a practical number of exclusive artists and to ensure that there will be equal project opportunities among them.”
Since last year, four actresses—Kris Bernal, Janine Gutierrez, Sunshine Dizon, and Bea Binene—had left the network.
Three of them said their contracts were not renewed.
Kris decided to become a freelancer. She has since then done projects for TV5, and occasionally appeared in GMA-7 shows, such as Tadhana and Owe My Love.
Janine and Sunshine have moved to ABS-CBN and are co-stars in the upcoming series Marry Me, Marry You.
Bea, in an exclusive interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal), said it was her decision not to sign a renewal contract. But she continues to do the TV program Good News on GMA-7’s second channel, Gtv, and the radio program OMJ: Oh My Job on Super Radyo DZBB.
Meanwhile, other prized Kapuso contract stars—Dingdong Dantes, Jennylyn Mercado, Dennis Trillo, Heart Evangelista, Carla Abellana, Barbie Forteza, and Alden Richards—are set to top-bill new shows.
Marian Rivera, on the other hand, continues to host the drama anthology Tadhana.
