After scoring high as a dramatic actress via Maalaala Mo Kaya, KC Concepcion upped the ante even more as ABS-CBN presents a month-long drama anthology series titled I Am KC.
This time, KC will show different facets of her acting abilities as she takes up complex roles designed to exhibit her flexibility as a budding actress. The show would also serve as a birthday present to herself and to her growing number of fans who simply can't get enough of the young charmer.
"We thought that this is the best we could offer to all those who supported me," KC tells members of the media during a press conference held earlier today, March 28, at the 9501 restaurant in the ABS-CBN compound located in Quezon City.
For its maiden episode, the pretty daughter of Megastar Sharon Cuneta and former matinee idol Gabby Concepcion will try her hand at comedy. "Binibining Palengke" will show the comic side of KC as she portrays the role of Gracie—a fun, wacky and carefree market vendor who is boyish, independent and strong willed.
Joining KC is the Comedy Concert Queen Ai-Ai delas Alas who plays KC's mother, Ramona. Strapped for cash, Ramona often encourages Gracie to try her luck in small time beauty pageants. During one of these pageants, Gracie bumps into a famous action star named Jeremy (portrayed by young heartthrob Jake Cuenca). Intrigued and smitten by the feisty young woman, Jeremy's pursuit would later uncover a well-kept secret!
Working with Ai-Ai, according to KC, was a funny learning experience. KC describes Ai-Ai as a natural comedian who knows her craft completely. Despite being the lead star, KC feels humbled in the presence of her more experienced co-stars.
"Ang tagal na po nilang ginagawa ‘to as compared to me na bago pa lang and ngayon pa lang talaga umaarte in front of the camera," KC says humbly.
Most of KC's co-stars and directors have nothing but praises for the neophyte actress. Director Jerry Lopez Sineneng, who directed KC in Maalaala Mo Kaya, directed one of the episodes for I Am KC and couldn't help but be impressed with his new discoveries about KC.
"Heavy drama kasi kami sa MMK but here mas lighter and hindi lang isang genre so lumitaw talaga ‘yong talent niya and versatility," he explains.
KC reveals said that she takes her TV acting very seriously since she knows that the medium would serve as her training for the big screen.
"I believe po talaga na by doing this, I'm really honing my skills while at the same time learning the craft," she smiles before adding, "gusto ko po kasi na just in case matuloy nga ‘yong paggawa ko ng pelikula, e, prepared na po ako and alam ko na talaga ‘yong ginagawa ko."
Catch the first episode of I Am KC, "Binibining Palengke," tomorrow, March 29, at 7 p.m. on ABS-CBN.
