Joyce Ching stars in her first lead role via Healing Hearts; teams up anew with ex-boyfriend Kristoffer Martin

Joyce Ching will topbill GMA-7's upcoming afternoon teleserye Healing Hearts.

This marks the first time the teen star will lead a teleserye after playing various supporting and kontrabida roles. She was previously seen in the GMA Telebabad show Strawberry Lane that ended in November 2014.

How does she feel upon being given her first lead role?

In an exclusive interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) during the PEPTalk shoot last April 16, she revealed that her character Liza is separated from her parents, causing her to have a difficult childhood.

REUNION WITH KRISTOFFER. In the afternoon soap, she will be working with actresses who also started as teen stars such as Mickey Ferriols, Angelika dela Cruz and Tina Paner.

Joyce said that she feels pressure working with these established stars.

“Masaya po, ‘tsaka nakakatakot. Noong una po nakakakaba kasi first time ko sila makakatrabaho, and nakakapressure kasi wow Mickey Ferriols, Angelika dela Cruz, Tina Paner, parang mga datihan ng mga pangalan sa showbiz talaga ‘yan.

“Pero nakakatuwa rin po at the same time kasi sobrang bait nila, parang tinutulungan talaga kami.”

This project will mark her reunion with her ex-boyfriend Kristoffer Martin.

They first worked together in the GMA drama Endless Love and they were paired in the youth oriented show Reel Love Presents: Tween Hearts in 2010.

They became a couple in January 2013. However, their relationship ended that same year.

Joyce admits that she has no problem working with her ex-bf.

“Okay naman po, actually sobrang enjoy on the set, kasi nga sobrang close din talaga namin.

“Parang kahit nag-hiwalay na kami bilang boyfriend-girlfriend, na-retain talaga yung friendship namin, kaya masaya.”

Joyce disclosed that they keep in touch with their Tween Hearts co-stars via the mobile app Viber.

“’Yung pagkikita kita po, nahihirapan lang kami kasi since ang dami namin ta’s iba iba ‘yong shows na ginagawa namin, ang hirap ayusin ng schedule.

“Pero may Viber group pa rin kami, ta’s paminsan minsan nagtetext-text, nag-uusap-usap pa rin.”

PROMISING ACTING CAREER. Joyce is known for being a kontrabida in Kapuso teleseryes such as Munting Heredera (2011), Ikaw Lang Ang Mamahalin (2011), Paroa: Ang Kuwento ni Mariposa (2012), Anna Karenina (2013), Dormitoryo (2013) and Paraiso Ko’y Ikaw (2014).

Now that she’s starting to accept lead roles, starting with Strawberry Lane last year, Joyce said that there is nothing wrong if she will go back to playing kontrabida roles.

She is also proud to say that GMA-7 has been giving her meaty roles ever since she entered showbiz.

Even though she has been in the showbiz industry for several years already, Joyce admits that she still feels shy when it comes to facing people.

When longevity was brought up, the teen star hopes she will stay in showbusiness for as long as she can.

As long as passion ko pa rin ‘yong acting, ‘yon pa rin talaga siguro. Feeling ko.”
