Richard Gutierrez revealed that K-pop star Kevin Woo recently flew in Manila for the taping of TV5’s newest talent search KISPINOY (K-pop Icon Search Pinoy Edition).
The 23-year-old U-KISS member, who happened to be one of the celebrity judges, was amazed that Filipino auditionees mastered popular K-pop dance numbers.
“Yung songs memorize nila in Korean, yung dance steps eksakto.
Admittedly a newbie when it comes to K-pop, Richard observed that having Kevin as part of the show is a good opportunity for the auditionees to learn how to be an all-around performer.
“Nakaka-amaze yung way of entertainment ng Koreans dahil nung na-meet ko yung grupo ng La Boum, yung all-girl group, tapos na-meet ko rin yung U-KISS.
“Yung dating nila parang very well-trained na entertainers. Very precise sila, alam nila kung anong gagawin nila.
“Parang no dull moment.
KISPINOY’s Filipino celebrity judges also include OPM icon Rico Blanco and actress/TV host Gelli De Belen.
Richard shared that he was surprised that Gelli will be part of the show, not knowing that she’s a huge fan of K-pop since 2008.
She’s been watching K-pop since 2008.
PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) caught up with Richard at his solo presscon for KISPINOY held at Jet 7 Bistro restaurant in Quezon City last Wednesday, July 8.
As the host of KISPINOY, his task is to interview the auditionees before and after their performance in front of the judges.
Richard added that the challenge for him lies in knowing how to deal with auditionees that either get in or turned down in the contest.
So, malungkot na nga siyang pumasok, malungkot pang lumabas.”
“So, ako yung sasalubong ‘di ba? Nataranta ako ngayon sa backstage. Hindi ko alam kung anong sasabihin ko.
“I tried my best to comfort the person. May mabibigat na emotions talaga.”
Nevertheles, Richard said that he enjoys getting to know the auditionees of KISPINOY.
“I think people are gonna be entertained watching the show especially the K-pop fans.”
From 150 final auditionees, they will eventually be short-listed to Top 20 down to Top 10.
Only five finalists will be chosen for a chance to fly to Korea for a brief immersion to the K-pop world before the final round of the talent competition.
The grand winner wins a cash prize as well as a talent management contract that includes K-pop training in Korea.
KISPINOY premieres on TV5 this Saturday, July 11, at 8 PM.
