Survivor Philippines is up and running.

Ngayong gabi, May 2, nagtapos ang first leg ng audition for the local franchise of television's biggest reality show na nasa GMA-7 na, ang Survivor Philippines. Ginanap ito sa SM Davao on a two-day spread, yesterday and today.

Overwhelmed ang Survivor Philippines production staff sa dami ng nag-audition for the show.

During its first day yesterday, May 1, dapat sana'y hanggang 5 p.m. lang tatanggap ng mag-a-audition ngunit nang paalis na kami sa venue ng around 4 p.m., napakarami pa rin ang nakapirma at hindi pa nakakapag-fill up ng initial application form. So right then and there, nag-decide ang production manager ng show na si Neil Gumban to extend the audition at pumayag naman ang SM Davao management.

Naibalita sa amin na mas maraming nagpunta sa second day, May 2, but we were on our way to the airport already for another engagement.

Ang ikinagulat ng Survivor Philippines staff, hindi naman ito artista search or singing search so they expected na kokonti lang ang mag-a-audition. Kabaligtaran ang nangyari dahil open to 18 to 60 years of age nga ang show, kaya't kahit ang mga inang magsi-60 years old na at mga amang may apo na, nag-apply rin.

Nakakagulat din ang ilang applicants thinking this could be a passport to showbiz dahil napakarami sa nakapila ang artistahin.

Isa sa mga nakapasa sa first and second level of audition ay isang Muslim na 6'3" ang height, a basketball player-model-singer na deadringer ni Mike Tan of StarStruck. The muscled and tattooed hunk auditioned dahil baka makatulong daw siya sa pagbabago ng image ng isang Muslim. The guy is a proud Tausug.

Dahil ito rin ang unang audition for Survivor Philippines, two big announcements were made by the host himself, Paolo Bediones, who also flew to Davao.

Una, the cash prize for Survivor Philippines is three-million pesos, tax free—the biggest cash prize ever offered for a local reality show.

Talking with Neil backstage, PEP learned that this will also be the biggest group of production people and contestants na ilalabas sa ibang bansa. Bukod kasi sa 16 castaways, makakasama nila ang 80 production staff, including Paolo, during 39 days of taping.

Hindi pa ayos ang ilang logistics ngunit malamang na gumamit sila ng 10 cameras to record every movement of the 16 castaways.
