Filipino-American signer Amy Vachal was almost eliminated at the American reality-talent show The Voice.
The 26-year-old singer was able to survive the Knockout rounds last Monday, October 26, because of the "steal" option.
She officially joined Adam Levine’s team after being dropped by Pharell Williams at the Knockout rounds.
In the Philippines, The Voice Season 9 airs every Tuesday and Wednesday at 7:50 pm on AXN. It is shown within 12 hours of the U.S. broadcast.
Before their performance, Grammy award-winning singer Rihanna helped out the coaches in mentoring the hopefuls for this episode. The “Diamonds” singer adviced Amy to loosen up and feel the music while performing.
Rihanna explained, “I was trying to bring her out of her shell and I didn’t want her to look at us or feel us looking at her so she can just feel her body doing different things.”
Amy admitted that she felt a little intimidated by the presence of the singer, “Rihanna, I was just kind of mind-blown with everything that she’s saying. She’s a little intimidating because she oozes confidence out of every pore.”
Amy performed Etta James’ “A Sunday Kind of Love” and went against teammate Madi Davis who performed “A Case of You” by Joni Mitchell.
The Voice coaches Blake Shelton, Gwen Stefani, Adam Levine, and Pharell Williams were all impressed by the two singers’ performances.
Gwen praised the singer by saying, “Amy, just your voice style is so beautiful and I love [that you’re] singing without the guitar. I mean, it’s just really hard not to just melt in your face because you’re so beautiful and the voice on top of it.”
Meanwhile, Adam expressed his regret for not turning his seat during Amy’s blind auditions. The Maroon 5 vocalist said, “Amy, one of my biggest regrets was not being able to turn around for you.
“And here you are now just continuing to blow everybody away.
“And there is something about what you do, that is impossible to replicate.”
Pharell ultimately chose Madi to continue being on his team and move on to the next round.
This allowed his fellow coaches—Adam and Blake—to use their Steal power to save Amy.
To convince Amy join his team for the second time, Blake told her, “With the blind auditions, I did push my button for you and I remembered begging because I believe you are a star.
“You are still one of my favorite artists who ever auditioned for this show ever and I won this show a bunch of times.”
On the other hand, Adam felt that he knows how to help Amy win The Voice US.
He said, “Listen, during the blind auditions, I thought, ‘Wow this girl can win this whole thing and I didn’t have the chance.’
“So I feel that I really missed out and now, I feel I know what to do to really help you thrive. I do believe you can win this whole thing, I believed it from the first moment I heard you sing.”
