Encantadia set to make TV comeback on GMA-7 in 2016

The popular 2005 telefantasya Encantadia is set to make a comeback on GMA-7 next year.

The popular telefantasya Encantadia is set to make a comeback on primetime TV viewing next year.

In the November 5 episode of GMA-7’s news program 24 Oras, JP Soriano's report indicated that the story of this mythical kingdom will be shown once again on the Kapuso Network.

According to GMA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Atty. Felipe L. Gozon, viewers can look forward to the lineup of Kapuso shows set to air in 2016.

He said, "Napakarami nating mga bagong programs na ila-launch, hindi lamang itong fourth quarter kung hindi well into next year.

“And as far as I'm concerned, I think they are better in terms of ratings generation than the previous ones that they will replace.”

The report, however, did not disclose if the 2016 version will be an adaptation or a continuation of the 2005 telefantasya.

Encantadia was first aired May 2005 and became a gamechanger in the fantasy genre. According to AGB Nielsen, the highest TV rating it registered was 51.7%.

The telefantasya told the magical saga of four sisters Pirena (Sunshine Dizon), Amihan (Iza Calzado), Alena (Karylle), and Danaya (Diana Zubiri). They served as the guardians of the four gems—fire, air, water and land—that gave life to the mythical world of Encantadia.

Because of its success, it spawned a prequel Etheria and a third chapter, Encantadia: Pag-ibig Hanggang Wakas.

In the teaser of GMA-7's new shows for 2010, it was announced that a continuation of the show titled Encantadia: The Second Saga will be aired but this project did not materialize.

Encantadia's main stars Iza Calzado and Karylle have already transferred to rival network ABS-CBN while Diana Zubiri has done projects on the Kapamilya Network and TV5.

Sunshine Dizon is still a Kapuso and will be part of GMA-7's upcoming teleserye, Little Nanay.
