Piolo Pascual is sole Pinoy invited as International Emmy Awards presenter; Charo Santos Concio to serve as gala chair

On Monday (November 23), ABS-CBN President, Chief Content Officer, and CEO Charo Santos-Concio is expected to open the 43rd edition of the International Emmy Awards to be held in New York City as part of her duties as the Gala Chair this year.

Charo feels overwhelmed to be given by the iEmmys board the rare opportunity to host the biggest gathering of creatives, production people, and talents from different parts of the world.

“Hindi ko akalain na mabibigyan ako ng opportunity to be really of service to our Kapamilya, to our kababayans--to be able to represent our country and my company with pride and honor,” Charo said in an interview with TV Patrol.

She also shared how much confidence she has in Filipino talent, especially in the field of broadcasting.

“A lot of Filipinos have great stories to tell about our Filipino spirit of strength and resilience. And I really hope more of our shows would be recognized by the international community. I’m sure na isang araw na five to ten years from now Filipino content will be as big as content from other parts of the world,” said the ABS-CBN executive.

According to the official website of the International Emmys, Charo will preside over the Gala, during which the International Academy will recognize programming in ten program categories and present special awards to Julian Fellowes, creator and writer of Downton Abbey (Founders Award) and Richard Plepler, Chairman & CEO of HBO (Directorate Award).

"Ms. Charo Santos-Concio is an internationally respected broadcast producer and executive who has spearheaded the growth of her organization to a leading position in the Philippines and the region beyond," Bruce L. Paisner, President & CEO of the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, was quoted as saying in the official website of the International Emmys.

Joining Charo in New York is Piolo Pascual, who was invited by the iEmmy’s as presenter.

As the only Filipino celebrity invited as presenter this year, the Kapamilya actor joins the ranks of international stars such as Michael Douglas, Tovah Feldshuh of The Walking Dead, Patina Miller of The Hunger Games, and Lea DeLaria of Orange is the New Black who were also named as presenters in this year’s gala.

“It's really overwhelming. This is something new for me and I’m just excited to be there and represent the country with Tita Charo. I’m really excited because we’re carrying the flag of the Philippines,” said Piolo.

This is not the first time international award-giving bodies recognized Charo. In previous years, Charo was also chosen as the Asian Media Woman of the Year by ContentAsia, awarded with a Gold Stevie Award for Female Executive of the Year in Asia, Australia, or New Zealand category in the Asia Pacific Stevie Awards, at was named one of the most powerful/influential women by Adobo Magazine.

The 43rd International Emmy Awards, to be hosted by Egyptian satirist Bassem Youssef, will take place this Monday (November 23) at the New York Hilton Hotel.
