ABS-CBN teen stars Sharlene San Pedro and Jairus Aquino started the year by adding a feather to their caps: being a VJ.
Sharlene and Jairus are two of the new additions to MYX Philippines. The other newbies are Pangako Sa 'Yo stars Sarah Carlos and Alex Diaz. These young talents join Robi Domingo, Tippy Dos Santos, and Ai dela Cruz as the music channel's resident VJs.
This makes Sharlene and Jailene (collectively known as Jailene) the youngest MYX VJs at the age of 16.
MYX officially introduced the new VJs during the nominations night of the annual MYX Music Awards. The announcement was made last Tuesday, February 9, at 12 Monkeys Music Hall and Pub in Makati City.
Both Sharlene and Jairus were handpicked to host the music channel's programs and didn't do the regular auditions which most MYX VJs went through as they join the music channels VJ Search.
In an interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal), Jairus and Sharlene recounted the feeling when they first found out that they will be joining the music channel as their resident VJs.
Sharlene said, "Sobrang saya ‘tsaka parang gusto ko agad mag-start. ‘Yun yung feeling."
Jairus added, "Ako, parang hindi ko alam kung parang nananaginip ako kasi siyempre, kumbaga hindi nga ako nag-audition. Then, I didn’t know na may ganun akong talent pala na puwede akong mag-DJ so parang gulat na gulat talaga ako.
"Then, yun masaya at the same gusto na mag-start kasi yung joy ng pagiging celebrity VJ, gusto kong ulitin yun."
PREPARATIONS. These former Goin' Bulilit stars didn't have much time to prepare as the new hosts of the music channel. However, both Jairus and Sharlene observes the senior VJs and take notes on how to become better VJs.
Magharutan kayo, magtawanan kayo.’
"So nagulat ako, sabi ko, ‘Wow sobrang gaan lang pala!’ Kasi yung MYX Celebrity VJ, lahat ng gagawin mo planado doon. Siyempre, kasi MYX Celebrity VJ ka for the month of something, ganyan.
“So ayun, sobrang planado lahat pero dito, iba na pala ‘to. Iba na yung pagiging VJ, ayun.”
ON THE OTHER SIDE. Aside from hosting shows, Jairus and Sharlene will also get to interview foreign acts that will visit the Philippines for a concert as part of their job. Sharlene wants to interview the members of One Direction if give the chance. Meanwhile, Jairus names Bruno Mars and Maroon 5 as his dream interviewees.
Still, the two young stars admitted that they still get nervous for even having thought of getting to interview an international celebrity.
Jairus said, "Isa pang mahirap sa pagiging VJ is yung itatanong mo."
He continued, "Kailangan mo mag-build ng good question kasi siyempre, didipende din sa question mo yung timpla ng taong tinatanong mo.
Sharlene agreed, "Kailangan kilala mo talaga yung tinatanong mo. Paano kung hindi mo kilala? Wala kang maitatanong ‘di ba?"
"Kailangan yung itatanong mo yung gusto din malaman ng manonood."
