The LGBT (Lesbian/Gay/Bisexual/Transgender) community unites for the recent controversy stirred by United Nationalist Alliance Senatorial-bet Manny Pacquiao's stand on same-sex marriage.
Many people have weighed in on the issue, including those from the religious sector as well as those who support the LGBT community.
Still, the Philippines can be considered one of the most tolerant countries in South East Asia. The entertainment scene in the country alone is filled with talented individuals from the LGBT community—from TV executives and producers to fashion designers, stylists, make-up artists, among many others.
We have seen a lot of LGBT-themed movie projects but it was only recently that TV networks finally depicted these stories on our TV screens.
Some of the popular ones are Tom Rodriguez and Dennis Trillo's team up in the GMA-7 primetime show My Husband's Lover and Rhian Ramos and Glaiza de Castro's love team for The Rich Man's Daughter.
With that in mind, PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) presents a list of actors who recently transformed into females for their roles on TV.
Dubbed as "the most beautiful transformation" on Philippine TV, Ken Chan's beauty in Destiny Rose is currently taking over the afternoon block of GMA-7. Ken is cast as Joey who later transforms into Destiny Rose, a successful author in search of true love. Fabio Ide plays plays Destiny Rose's love interest Gabriele Antonioni.
SPO1 Ricardo "Cardo" Dalisay by day, Paloma by night. Coco Martin also transformed into a fierce and confidently beautiful woman for his character in FPJ's Ang Probinsyano. Coco's character had to put on a disguise as part of his mission to save Carmen (played by Bela Padilla) who was abducted by a human-trafficking syndicate.
Joross Gamboa played a transgender named Sashi in ABS-CBN's drama anthology Maalaala Mo Kaya. Sashi fell in love with a guy named Rex (Polo Ravales) who was in a long-term relationship with Fats (Roxanne Guinoo).
Ryan Agoncillo also posted a selfie on Instagram where he is seen dressed up as a woman. Ryan has yet to reveal why he dressed up as a female but the Eat Bulaga host is not new to this kind of roles. Ryan already played a drag queen for TV5's mini-series titled Lady Dada.
In an interview with PEP in 2010, Ryan said he never imagined himself dressed up as such for a project. He quipped, "Ang ganda-ganda ko rito! I never imagined myself dressed in drag before. This one's for the books seriously."
Joshua Garcia also had a beautiful transformation on Maalaala Mo Kaya. Joshua played a gay teen named Ernesto who fell in love with Loisa Andalio's character named Jonna. Eventually, Ernesto had to leave the province for Manila where he was able to express himself and transform into Barbie. This is Joshua's first gay role on TV.
