After the successful flight of Kapitan Boom, a sexy superhero named Varga will come to continue the fight against evil.
It is going to be a back-to-back show on August 2 for ABS-CBN's Komiks series since the network will feature the final episode of Mars Ravelo's Kapitan Boom and will welcome another Ravelo's super heroine Varga.
Unknown to many, Varga was created by the Father of Pinoy Superheroes in 1947 when he was still working for Bulaklak Magazine. The violet-colored superheroine appears when an alien named Vara merges with a human kid named Olga.
Mariel Rodriguez, who plays the role of Vara, described her character during the show's press conference held last Monday, July 28, at the 9501 Restaurant, ABS-CBN Compound in Quezon City.
She described, "I'm a princess at galing ako sa planetang Vargon. Ang problem is, sumabog yung planeta namin at nagland ako dito sa Pilipinas, sa earth. I met this little girl [Olga, played by Angel Sy]. Magkakaroon kami ng connection kase siya lang ang nakakakita sa akin. Magkakaroon kami ng masayang journey together because when we connect, we become Varga."
Together, Varga and Olga will face their enemy, Xandra, portrayed by Sheryl Cruz.
"Napaka-vain ng role dito ni Xandra," said Sheryl. "Xandra is actually a magnificently looking lady like 21 years old at the real age of 80 years old. Excited ako kase magkakaroon siya ng mga transformations."
She added, "She's just a vain person looking for a fountain of youth. So, she'll do anything in her means para matagpuan 'yong fountain of youth na 'yon para hindi siya ever maging matanda.
"Siguro, in the process, kaya siya sumasama kasi it's just that 'yong need niya para makakuha ng fresh body kung saan niya kinukuha iyong energy or 'yong youth ng tao."
To add more conflict on the story, Vara will meet Xandra's "brother" named James [played by Zanjoe Marudo]. He is a model who will fall in love with Vara.
Thus, the question arises, "Is there still hope for James and Vara? Will Varga be able to defeat the very powerful Xandra?"
DIFFERENT KIND OF SUPERHERO. Director Trina Dayrit said that Varga would be different from the other comics superheroes.
"Sa umpisa kasi hindi niya alam na superhero siya, e, so may ganung element na medyo may pagka-down-to-earth na superhero kahit na kapag nag-transform na siya into a superhero," said Direk Trina.
She continued, "'Yong mga iba kasi noong araw, as a human being, ano sila, usually weakling, di ba? 'Tapos kapag nagiging superhero, lahat ng lakas nasa kanila. Dito sa character ni Varga—sa umpisa ng kwento, first time naging Varga siya—wala siyang inkling na superhero siya. So, parang hindi pa niya alam kung ano ang gagawin niya. With the help of this little girl, si Olga, doon lang nila unti-unting nadi-discover kung ano 'yong powers na mayroon sila."
Of course, like any other superhero story, Varga will also give different lessons for its viewers, especially for the kids.
In fact, in the audio-visual presentation for Varga, Direk Trina said, "Ang kwento ng Varga basically is discovery of oneself sa mata ng ibang tao. Ganun ang mangyayari kay Varga, ganun ang mangyayari kay Olga. Sa pakikipagtunggali nila sa iba't ibang elemento, nadidiskubre nila yung sarili nila, yung inner strength, yung katauhan nila—hindi mo kailangan ng super strength or superpower para ka maging superhero. Kahit ordinaryong tao, makakatulong ka pa rin sa ibang tao."The first episode of this new fantasy series Varga airs back-to-back with the last episode of Kapitan Boom. Meet the sexy superheroine this Saturday, August 2, at 6:45 p.m. on ABS-CBN.
